What's the dilly, yo? I keep hearing about the BF, even read about it in MaximumPC, and it's on Samsung's website in the news. So... Where is it?

I think it doesn't get released untill early February. Read that from a news report on behardware.com

this is all that is on Samsungs site...

Features
# Viewable Image Size: 19”
# Brightness (Typical): 300 cd/m2
# Contrast Ratio (Typical): 700:1
# Viewing Angle (H/V, Typical): 160°/160°
# Interface: Analog/Digital
# Horiz. Frequency: 30-81
# Max/Native Resolution: 5:4
# Available Color(s): Black/Black
# Special Features: MagicTune™ with asset management, MagicColor™, MagicBright™, and MagicZone™

So far exact same specs as 940B...

I guess it would be interesting to talk to an engineer involed with these two panels. There seems to be two conflicting press releases. One shows the 940bf as 4ms and the other show 2ms.

940BF 4ms press release:LINK

940BF 2ms press release:LINK

What is up with that? My bet it that the 940BFmust have a faster panel or inprovements over the 940B? Looks like they were going to release it last year but decided to wait and tweak it down to 2ms? Competion? Would be nice if they were more clear....

Would be nice if they'd release the damn thing so we knew and stop dangling it in front of us like a carrot!

I just picked one up from Fry's yesterday. I just happened to call asking if they had a 940b, and they told me they had the 940bf instead. They held it for me, but when I went there I notice that they didn't have it on display at all in the store.

Too bad I don't have any Frys within a few states of me. LOL Outpost.com, maybe?

Jazz- I believe you bought the 930 BF... Can you double check?
Nope, it's a 940bf. :D

I'll try to toss up a pic or two when I get home tonight.

D'oh, forgot to take a pic. I'll try to remember tonight. I still have to make some adjustments, but as the settings are now it looks great IMO.

Jazz if you do not mind me asking :)
is that 380 with or with out tax?
Jon

I bought one 2 days ago from NCIX. My previous purchases went well and I called and they said they will ship it from Canada for no more than general shipping.

NCIX Link to 940BF

Comes out to about 420 American and costs 20 to ship.

lol, NCIX is showing a picture of a 940B...
Yeah I'm not sweating it, they have a really good RMA program that for $20 includes drop shipping a return mail box and I called and spoke to them. The gentleman besides being incredibly hard to understand stated that this was a "new monitor - just added to inventory and they've had alot of calls about it." If it turns out to be a B then I'll simply return it.

For those that haven't seen it it's beautiful see here .

It will jsut be a 940b with overdrive (or whatever samsung calles their version of overdrive)

i just bought a 930bf from newegg.. what do you guys think about those? shortly after i purchased it soemone told me that they were having some "issues with the color" on these monitors.. i still have time to cancel the order.. any recommendations?

cancel... I saw that you paid 380 too, and thats too much. Get the 940B or 940BF and ease your anxiety..

i cancelled not long after i posted the last time.. i then re-ordered.. purchasing the 940b

I have checked the specifications of the Samsung 940B versus 940BF. See http://www.samsung.com/pdf/lcd_line2005.pdf. All specs appear same except:

940B:
Response time: 8ms
Regulation: TCO ’99, FCC Class B, UL, CSA
Cabinet: Black/Black, Silver/Black

940BF:
Response time: I've seen 2ms and 4ms (Gray-To-Gray) listed.
Regulation: TCO ’99
Cabinet: Black/Black (there are many pics on 'net of a Silver variety, no idea why)

And the 940BF is not available ANYWHERE in the U.S. that I could find.

I want the 940BF due to the claimed faster response time. But it sure would be nice to understand the underlying technical differences b/w these 2 displays. Also it would be nice if I could buy it from somewhere in this country.

Here are links to Silver variety of 940BF:

http://www.marketingsamsung.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?prodid=383 (actually says "SyncMaster 940BF-Silver")

I got mine in the mail last Friday. The box says 4ms response but the monitor had a big 2ms sticker on it. I'll post pics tonight. Its is super fast. X3 Reunion in fight sequence is AMAZINGLY smooth. Recommend it and I've had a few LCD monitors this is by far the best all arouond one. Oh and mine is Black on Black with standard circle base no rotate or lift ability. I got mine from NCIX in Canada

FYI Email from Samsung received today (02/22):

"Dear Sir/Madam:

Thank you for contacting us. I do apologize, but the silver SyncMaster 940BF, is not yet available in the United States. Also, I am unsure as to when it will be released. If you were to contact us we might be able to assist you further with an answer as to if/when it will be available to purchase. Thank you and have a nice day."

But you can get it just about everywhere else? WTF? BenQ did the same thing with their DW1655 DVD+/-RW drive...

Yeah, note the email says the Silver model will not yet available in the U.S. Well it's the same for the black model too currently; I haven't found a U.S. vendor yet who has it.

To follow up, the Silver model 940BF: I asked someone selling it (in Germany) and it looks like it's a 230-volt electrical standard (will not plug in to outlets in U.S. / Canada without some kind of adapter I guess).

:p
I can't believe this, usually we have to wait months for these things to become available around here after the US.
Well the 940BF is available in Romania since the beginning of the year.
The specifications of 940BF in Romania:
2 ms (G2G), DVI, 1280x1024, 700:1, 300 cd/㎡, 160/160, TCO 03

I think samsung decided to oficially call it 2ms(GTG). Maybe they change it back later to 4ms or 4ms(GTG). :D

I think I can confirm that. The 940BF has a built-in power supply, and in Europe we don't see very often(this means never) electric gadgets that use 110V. :)

From my research, the SILVER colored 940BF is 230 volt (Europe/Asia etc). The BLACK model is the US/Canada 110 volt standard.

i would bet that the 940B and 940BF are the same panel, just one is for US and one is not. 2ms GtG is very close probably to 8ms Black White Black.

In Europe both of them are available. And the 940BF is more expensive so it should be better. :-D

Plus MaximumPC, a US magazine published in San Francisco, is pimping it pretty hard. But where is it???

They put the 940BF in their "best of the best" 3 issues ago. Issue after that, they got word from Samsung of a "production delay". This month's issue still lists the 940BF in the "best of the best" section. I've emailed them about this (as I'm sure many have), but I also cancelled my subscription (for unrelated reasons) so I won't be seeing if they use my email in an upcoming issue.

The Samsung 940BF was delivered yesterday from NCIX.com, all the way from Canada to Virginia. No dead pixels. Some slight backlight bleeding is present at the top of the monitor, a narrow band along the top of the display. I'm very impressed with response time in first-person shooter games. Response time is excellent for an LCD! Viewing angles could be better but this was expected for this TN panel. Color reproduction looks adequate to me, but I admit I do not know a lot about color accuracy or calibration. I'm not using any Samsung MagicTune color calibration software. I have lots of photos I took.
