Samsung 910T Opinions?

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone is using this monitor? Its a PVA panel by Samsung, shows really nice colour reproduction from the stuff I sampled in the store (blacks look good with 1000:1 contrast ratio)

Does anyone know about the amount of ghosting is has though? Its a 25ms screen (though that often doesn't mean too much), and I could only find a review on GamePC that didn't really recomment it.

I use my comp these days mainly for watching DVDs, photoshop, and reading. I'm not a CS nor Quake person though I am playing hl2 now (which is great!)

Anyone been running this for a while? How do you find it? Thanks!

I am also curious about the 910T. Here are my options:

Here is what is common on all 3 monitors:
Pixel Pitch: 0.294 mm
Maximum Resolution: 1280 x 1024
Interface: Analog/Digital

Samsung 910T
Type: TFT/PVA
Response Time: 25ms
Colour: 16.7 million (24-bit or 8-bit)
Brightness: 260 nits
Contrast Ratio: 800:1
Viewing Angle (H/V): 170/170

Dell 1905FP
Type: ??????
Response Time: 20ms
Colour: 16.7 million (24-bit or 8-bit)
Brightness: 250 nits
Contrast Ratio: 800:1
Viewing Angle (H/V): 170/170

Benq 937s
Type: TFT/TN
Response Time: 12ms
Colour: 16.2 million (18-bit or 6-bit)
Brightness: 250 nits
Contrast Ratio: 500:1
Viewing Angle (H/V): 140/140

Originally, I was looking for a 19 inch LCD with DVI-D for under $600, but it is hard to find a decent on for that price. I game a little so response time is somewhat important. I have looked at the 937s and the 912N (analog version of the 910T) side by side and the colour reproduction and contrast SEEMS favourable towards the benq. Can anyone confirm this?

The dell 1905fp is a pva type panel. Unfortunately, it has quite a bit of ghosting on grey colors. Games like CoD show quite a bit of this. However, games that look less realistic, say Far Cry or UT2004, show almost none.

I would also like to know what the difference is between the 193P and 910T. Pricewise, the 193P is about $100-200 more expensive. Only thing I can see other than the plastics is the viewing angles (178/178 for 193P and 170/170 for 910T) and the response time (25ms vs. 20ms)

Actually the specs for the 910T over here in asia are 1000:1 contrast, 25ms and 178/178 viewing angle.

The only diff from the 193p is the 25ms timing. However I'm curious as to know if the 193 and the 910 are using the same panel. If they are well then the choice spec wise should be quite clear if you're aiming to save money.

I'm just not sure if the 25ms speed is tolerable for DVDs... demoing at the shops is one thing.. finding Nemo looked great, especially since the black levels and contrast for this monitor are that good!

Im going to weigh in here. I just got the 910T and I also have the Sony SDM-HS94P on hand as I am deciding between the two. While the 910T does have accurate colors and great adjustability, it just doesn't cut it when it comes to games and DVDs - the bluring and smearing is just too great, even with the DVI connection. The Sony on the other hand, looks more crisp, even though it suffers from some backlight leakage, and is noticably smoother and faster. I think the concerns about the mirror coating are totally overblown - in my home office I don't notice it at all. I might have Sony exchange it out as I understand the more current ones have the backlight leackage issue fixed.

Again, for simple home, office and internet use, the 910T is great, but lets face it - a 25ms response time is just plain slow, and it shows. Im returning mine.

Hmm.. thanks for that direct feedback..

so it looks now like a toss up b/t the newer 19" Viewsonics and the older 20" Dell 2001FP.

The Dell is still the best value... a bit OT here but I guess I'll post this as new that I have no idea why two generally OK web review sites praise and criticise the dell so differently..

Spend the extra $$$ for the 193P. You'll not regret it! If it cost $200 more than the 910T and you keep your monitor for 5 years, that's only $3.33 a month... I have the 193P and IMO, it's the best 19" out there. The only other monitor I have seen that is as nice as my 193P is the Apple 20" widescreen. I don't remember the model number, but it's their latest one with the thin metal bezel. It was priced about $1,300, but only a 1 year warranty :(

BTW, the 193P is a 20ms panel, not 25ms and I have not seen any ghosting.

I have until Dec. 16th to decide whether I'm going to buy the Dell 1905FP. Owners of this monitor please comment. I need to know it's flaws (if there are any and I know there must be some flaws). I just need to know if they are bearable.

A lot of people have been saying that the Dell 1905FP uses the same panel as the Samsung 193P. Does anyone have proof/evidence that this is the case? (ie. article/web site/e-mail)

And I'm still debating betwee Dell/Samsung and Benq. (Going to personally have a look at the Benq vs. Samsung 912N tonight.

thanks,

Robert

The dell 1905 DOES not use the same panel as the samsung 193P. It uses a lite-on pva matrix. You can check out my review here

The problem with these panels is definitely ghosting. Not because they are 20 or 25ms, but because the response time on pva panels can go as high as 90ms depending on what colors are being produced. All greys/browns will ghost. From my experinece, games like far cry, ut2004 don't ghost, but D3 and CoD do. Why? Simple, far cry and ut use bright textures which have a lot of colors (red, blues, greens, etc). D3 and CoD look more realistic and use more greys, browns, etc. I would say the 1905fp is a good alternative to the samsung since its quite a bit cheaper. As for ghosting, it'll be the same. There is no difference between my 20ms and 25ms panel with regards to ghosting. You can check out the xbit labs article on lcd monitors. Its a good read and teaches you a lot.

Depending on the person, you may or may not see ghosting. I didn't see any until a buddy of mine came over and pointed it out. Once you see it and know what it is though, you'll unfortunately always see it.

I agree, I tested the 910T with 'Gone in 60 Seconds' DVD [fast paced show with some night scenes]

Colour wise, the blacks were outstanding and all the naunces of the scene came out, unfortunately there was quite a bit of motion blur, not enough to irritate me completely but I fear that if I were to sit in front of this screen for a long while I would get quite frustrated. Again I guess YMMV, and to qualify, I only stared at the screen for 1/2 hour at the shop...

just had a look at the xbit article, it's said that

The PVA technology (Patterned Vertical Alignment) was developed by Samsung as an alternative to MVA.

and

PVA matrices feature a better contrast ratio and a much more predictable production quality due to their being manufactured on the facilities of one manufacturer only.

Could it be that Samsung manufactured the panel and lite-on assembled the final product?
