Hey folks,
I'll try to make this story as painless as possible:
Received alienware desktop with 3TB HDD a week ago.
Installed samsung SSD and used supplied cloning software. Cloned successfully. Changed bios settings to AHCI and changed boot options to boot to the samsung drive.
When trying to boot again, it kept failing at the loading screen and would not boot windows. I disconnected the HDD and tried a fresh install of windows 7 on the SSD and then installed all drivers afterwards. I went into the bios settings and selected the option "Samsung 840... etc." as the main boot device.
This worked however booting up was a bit slow. I tuned the SSD, made sure it was aligned, all of the standard suggestions I have seen online. However this is the part that I find odd:
Once I am at the login screen, it is lightning fast. Once I type in my password everything loads in like 1 second. However, that is not the case when GETTING to the login screen. I have tried both the no GUI boot as well as the standard one, and both of them sit at the loading screen for approx 20-30 seconds before coming to the login screen. The HDD was much faster than this.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? It appears to be working fine as all applications/file access are really fast after logging in. It is just the initial boot that is slow.
As a side note, yes I have made sure that I am using the correct SATA port.
Thanks for any suggestions! I am just wondering if I missed a setting somewhere or something...
