Do you think or know that the Samsung 830's will be discontinued this month when the 840's come out? Meaning, should I pounce on any deal I see this month as they get sold out or will these still be sold come Black Friday (the 830's)?
 
I think its probable, as the 840s seem higher profit margin for samsung with the cheaper nand chips.
 
It is hard to say. The Samsung 840 and 840 Pro use 21nm flash (TLC and MLC). The Samsung 830 uses 27nm MLC flash. So all three models use different flash. If Samsung still has a lot of 27nm MLC SSD-grade flash, they may continue to produce 830 SSDs for some time. Or they could stop making 830s at any time.

Regardless, if you need an SSD now, I would not wait more than a couple weeks looking for a deal on an 830. I doubt the prices will get significantly lower than the deals we are seeing now.
 
yes i am buying a 830 for my laptop soon (waiting fo rmy sister to give me my laptop back).

I noticed there is a netbook 830 and a desktop version, I got the desktop version already in my pc, whats the difference between the 2?

I sort of wished I got the 256gig for my pc now as well although its not full or even nearly full it probably would be nice to have "all" of my games on it as well.

Usually the notebook drives are 7mm thick and the desktop versions are 9mm I believe. Most laptops you can fit a 9mm drive in them though, with the exception being the new Ultrabooks, that usually require a 7mm drive.


Don't quote me on this, but I believe the Samsung drives are all the same thickness, (7mm), and the only difference between the desktop upgrade kits are that they come with some kind of "ghost" software and probably a 2.5" adapter for desktop upgrades.
