I bought this incredible piece of component recently, and all i can say is it is works like a gem.I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has thought about it. Not only do programs load faster ( with the exception of Adobe Lightroom but it is still is reasonable fast) even browsing is experienced light years faster. Are SSD capable of that ? I didnt expect so at least.

Even though i have seen some people who got higher read/write scores out of it maybe thats because i haven't tune it with Samsungs driver yet. :/

Did you get a coupon for a free game? I got a free copy of Ghost Recon with mine.

It won't speed up your internet connection any but it will speed up caching of your web pages to the HD. I don't get the speeds others do either but I think that's because the computer it's in uses the H67 chipset.

No those bastards didnt send me any game, could because i bought the basic edition thou. Im aware that connection wont be faster, i just feel the browser got way smoother.
Did you try the samsung driver ? that will be my next step to speed things up.

Its the Samsung Drive Wizard that does a load of tweaks and tune ups. Quite a nice little extra.

I have 4 different SSD's from different manufacters and samsung 830s has been the best for me personally. Of course it helps that my 830s are in raid 0. :D

Are the p67 chipsets better for the 830's?

You can find Samsung's magician software right at their website but it is not mac compatible.

I love my 830 drive. Switching from mechanical drives to this lightning fast SSD made a world of difference. Can't speak for the reliability yet, but I expect it to hold up better than my OCZ ssd. Time will tell...

Thanks for the tip about the Samsung wizard. I'd never heard of it.

There's something I like about the 830 that's not quantifiable. I have one in an older Shuttle cube with an H67 chipset and the system feels more responsive than my Z68 using M4s in RAID 0. Starts up faster too.

If your serial number was part of the free game off you can call Samsung and they will give you a code for the game....
"We're pleased to announce that everyone who purchased a valid retail kit is eligible for the free game key. If your drive is missing the sticker and you made a purchase after June 5th, all you need to do is call 1-800-SAMSUNG and provide proof of purchase. Again, this is a limited time promotion"
I hope this helps...

I was thinking about picking up a Samsung 830. Does it have any major pitfalls against Marvell or LAMD based SSDs?

I agree recently too just got these drives and the increase in speed is amazing. Bought another SSD for the game drive now.
