Samsung 830 availability in Canada

It seems to be the consensus here that the Samsung 830 is a great SSD and I am very interested. Why is it then, that no brick and mortar stores in Canada have these drives? I found them at Tiger Direct.ca, and the price is the same as the American site. Samsung is a huge name, and many stores here carry every other Samsung product, and many other SSD names also. Newegg sells them in the USA, but not on their Canadian site. This is weird.

Is there something I should be worried about with the Samsung 830, and ordering it from Tiger Direct?
 
No experience but you also have two retailers listed on amazon.ca

Well, I don't really know of many stores in canada (i am in ottawa specificly) that stock samsung HD's to begin with. Mostly Seagate/WD. As for SSD'd OCZ Intel etc never seen a samsung on a shelf however they are excellent drives and dell sends them out in their OEM systems now. If the online reviews are good just get a local store to order it or something.
 
Dell has been using the 830 in it's higher end laptops for quite a while. I read some rumors that it might be the SSD for new MacBook Pros.
 
It's weird that NCIX don't sell them as they are pretty heavily involved with Samsung on the consumer electronics side (TV's, monitors etc) and have Samsung displays in the Vancouver Broadway store. I was looking for 830s as well when I built my system, but ended up going with the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe instead.
 
My brother got the Chronos deluxe 240Gb last week for $220. He has had a few problems with it though, something he said was "sandforce" related. I also looked at the Crucial M4, but the lack of tools has me coming back to the Samsung.
 
Samsung have been making SSD for as long or longer as other brands, including their own controllers (good ones, at that), but they have a much lower profile for some reason, maybe because they concentrated on the OEMs ?

Does he have the latest firmware installed on the drive? If he bought it last week it should have shipped with it.

I've had zero issues with my drive on both an ancient P965 board and a brand new Z77 board.
 
I ask him if he updated firmware before he loaded windows. Thanks.

As for my situation, I should probably just get an Intel 520. I just wont order anything from Tiger. I went into their B&M store in Markham and it was a circus, not a store I want to order something online from. Kinda reminded me of flea market in there.

The 520 will give me the peace of mind with the SSD toolbox, non-destructive firmare updates, and 5 year warranty.

Yep, go with the 520 for those reasons, good choice.

I agree about TD, I will never shop from there, I only use NCIX and Memory Express.
