I can't decide which one to get?

Thing is, I'm getting two for a dual setup..

And the primary purpose is intended for games/home use, so the least ghosting the better..

Are both these LCDs the same type of panel with limited vertical viewing angles?

The Samsung specs online lie, so there's no point in looking.

And worst part is the 710Ts are backordered immensely in Canada; that's why I'm thinking about the Viewsonic VP171B now...

I've used both and can say the following

ghosting: couldn't see any on either
ergonomics: VP171B
image quality: VP171B
user controls: VP171B

Anyone know what's the color depth for each of the panels?

What's it for the VP171B?

And what does it mean when the VP171B is HDTV ready?

The VP171b is 18bit dithered I think, Samsung is 24bit.
It's 720p HD ready (1280x720). So you can watch 720p HDTV broadcasts in native resolution if you hook the monitor up to a HD source.

Sorry, Samsung is 18bit as well. Samsung was slow on updating their site. And it is NOT native 720p; it is 1280x1024. It may have the inputs, but it is not 720p. And you're going to need an HDTV tuner for that...

I know it's 1280x1024, I'm using one right now. But it can handle 720p resolution (1280x720) in it's native resolution (with black bars). I also did mention that it needed a HD source (ie: tuner).
