I'm building a new rig and don't have a monitor. I'm going to be using it for a lot of gaming and LAN parties. I was thinking about going with the samsung 710N. LCD or CRT doesn't matter to me really. I like the slim-ness of LCD, but if the performance in gaming is weaker, then im willing to go with a bulkier CRT. Anyone have any suggestions?

samsung 710n?

I adore my 712n, which is identical to the 710n but with a different style base. Your eyes will thank you. 
There are actually several reviews of this monitor on the net. Do some googlin'. Also of note is some specs you should be lookin' for. Namely:
xx ms or rt
-this is your response time, the lower the better
-look for 12 or under and you'll be free of ghosting images
nit or brightness
-this is your brightness, the higher the better
-not sure what to recommend, but the sammy's is 300 which seems higher than quite a few
viewing angle
-look at a laptop from an angle and you'll know exactly what this means
-look for 160+ on both horizontal and vertical
-The sammy's horizontal is great, but the vertical could use a boost if you lower/raise your chair more than 6-12 inches ie. movies or typing
native resolution
-the higher the better, usually
-if you have an lcd with a native res of 1600x1200 and your video card can't pull the mustard you may have to deal with subpar iq...it's not as bad as text tho
contrast ratio
-shoot for 500 or more
-I wish I could explain more...lol!
dead pixels
-they suck...really bad
-it's not just dead pixels, but stuck, open, or whatever they're called.
-for instance, I had a laptop with one blue pixel above the movie widescreen image ie. right on the widescreen bar...I couldn't stop looking at it!
-they have improved dramatically tho...your chances are much better with a Samsung/Viewsonic over a Sceptre/DCL/etc...
They're light and don't give you cancer...good luck!
edit: oh yeah, the samsung has a wonderfull little button on the bottom that changes between 4 different color/contrast/brightness levels. There's custom, text, internet, entertain. I use them for mainly varying brightness/contrast. Starting with custom for no light conditions, text for low light, internet for daylight, and entertain for games/movies. Let me know if you have any questions.
