Anyone has any experience with Samsung 2TB in hardware RAID. I already have one and wouldn't mind buying 3 others and a hardware controller to put them in RAID 5.

Are the the hitachi drives the only problem free drives in hw RAID or can you get away with a stable Samsung 2TB HD203WI array?

I have 4 of these in RAID 5 for 2 months so far with zero problems. Just one DOA drive but shit happens during shipping right?

They are really quiet which I like!

For a hardware RAID5 you would want TLER disks, to prevent drive drop outs and splits whenever a bad sector occurs.

It appears the Samsung 2TB disks support CCTL by the utility SCTERC. You can limit the recovery time to 7 seconds for use with Hardware RAID.

The alternative would be software RAID based non-Windows arrays, which can use disks without TLER and without any strange array splits and so on. It would simply wait/stall up to a minute when encountering a bad sector.

Thanks for your replies.

Tonyy - if you don't mind me asking, what Raid controller are you using? Have you activated the CCTL with SCTERC?

Thanks.
