I just got this tv and tried hooking it up to my laptop through the vga plugs on the backs of the tv and the laptop. I plugged them up and all I get on the tv is the my wallpaper. I don't get the icons or start menu, and when I open a program it's still just the background. Also when I plug the tv up through the vga on the 360 it says its not supported but it should be supported.

You need to configure external displays on your laptop using either the Windows dialog or the graphics driver.

It doesn't work magically. I don't know why the 360 cable doesn't work, perhaps its not seated properly.

I did configure it. I went to display properties and it found the monitor and I checked the box that says extend desktop to this monitor but all it does when I check it is display the my wallpaper that is on my laptop. Unchecking the box just makes the screen go blank on the tv. Also I went into my ATI Catalyst control center and did the same thing and it still just shows the desktop wallpaper.

Here is some pics.

ATI couldn't suck more at multi monitor. I didn't even bother with my macbook pro in bootcamp because I know that the catalyst laptop drivers suck (mines got an x1600)

Sorry, you're probably out of luck. Google didn't help me (I was trying a Samsung 23 over VGA with my x1600)

you need to set the secondary display as clone or primary display. right now its just using it as an extension of your laptop screen. When you choose extension it doesnt put anything on the display except the wallpaper but u can drag windows and junk to it, its basically putting the tv next to ur laptop and increasing ur desktop space. Clone is a clone of your regular desktop so its not much use, if you want to use the tv as your normal desktop u need to set it to primary display. What i usually did (dont use dual monitors anymore since sold laptop, it had a mobile 9600) is set the external display as primary and laptop as secondary, that way i can move windows like messaging stuff to the laptop while im playing a game or something so i can see it. After that it usually auto defaults to that setting after i hook it up later again.
