So my room mate and I both bought some Samsung 225BW monitors a couple months back. We were ecstatic to have 22" widescreen monitor and overjoyed that it had a sticker on the front that said HDCP! However, we didn't give it a second thought as neither of us have HD DVD players as of right now. I spoke with another friend recently who has an xbox 360 hd dvd player and he was saying that he doesn't think they're HDCP at all. So we download the WinDVD advisor AND Cyberlink advisor. Both tools say that its not HDCP capable even though the box says it is. All the reviews I've read say that it is as well. Am I doing something wrong?

I borrow the aforementioned xbox 360 HD/DVD player with the KING KONG HD DVD it came with, and it won't play with WinDVD 8 platinum or PowerDVD 7.2 HD. What the crap. I bought an HDCP monitor that isn't HDCP at all? Why would Samsung advertise the monitor as HDCP if it isn't? Please tell me I'm doing something wrong.

PLEASE SAVE MY SANITY !

I'm the friend with the HD-DVD drive.

His monitor had the sticker on it...But in looking at reviews on the web - this is a 1st gen 22" with the Chimei made TFT LCD panel, and from what I can find none of these models actually had HDCP...They may advertise as such, but in the manual there is never any mention. I bought a Westinghouse model from Best Buy that stated it had HDCP in the advertising. It too had nothing in the manual about HDCP and didn't work for HD-Movies.

I called Westinghouse and asked them. They said they did NOT have HDCP on that 22" Westinghouse LCD.

Here is the link for the Samsung manual on the monitor my friend Nelson has

I think the confusion starts in the fact that HD-DVD material will play over analog at a reduced resolution -- like 960x540 or something, but it scales it down if it isn't an DVI connection, and won't play a DVI connection at all if it doesn't have the HDCP chip.

The Cyberlink HD advisor tool is a good test tool (2MB download from cyberlinks site)

Anybody got any real world expierience?
