I'm in the market for a new display and I saw the two new 22" displays from Samsung that really caught my eye. However, I cannot differentiate these two models apart. I was thinking that one was widescreen and the other was not, but they both seem to be widescreen. Newegg has the BW in stock and does not list the LW on their site, so I was just making sure I am getting the best model. Samsung's site lists the BW as 22" and the LW as 21.6" but why would a monitor come in sizes that vary by 4 inches? If anyone could point out the difference that I am missing, it would be appreciated.

I am actually wondering the same thing.

Newegg has the BW at 289

Costco has the LW at 259.

In Fact both are making the claim of 2ms!!

and apparently the only difference between the 2253BW and the LW are a slightly smaller screen and the LW series has a glossy screen.

Has anyone around here any evaluation of the LW?

Anyone care to throw in two cents?

I bought the 2253LW at Future Shop, on sale for $199 Canadian. I can't see any dead pixels, although there are some minor flaws in the plastics.

The panel itself is not glossy, but the bezel and stand sure are. Light from behind the monitor reflects forward via the base of the stand.

The control buttons and the power LED are located on the bottom right edge of the panel. Also on the bottom edge of the panel is a clear plastic "blade" with a forward curving profile, on which are the difficult to read button icons. It also acts as a light pipe for the blue power LED, an improvement over the older monitors where the blue LED was right on the front. However, the light pipe also reflects light from above and behind as if it were a solar collector.

When the backlight is set below 72, an approximately 650hz (E-5) tone can be heard from the panel. I can hear this tone when several feet away from the monitor, and more clearly when the monitor is tilted back as it is somewhat muffled by the panel itself. It isn't overly loud, but it is constant and does not change pitch or loudness with brightness. In a dark, quiet room I find it very annoying.

The base feels somewhat solid, but it creaks a lot when you try to adjust the tilt. It does not have height adjustment or swivel.

The panel itself has typical TN panel characteristics, and the backlight is overbright for a home office setting. It looks ok in the store with those bright halogens overhead. My only experience with TN panels had been smaller ones, where the viewing angles were not a problem. With this one if I'm not centered exactly on the monitor, I can see the colour shift easily. I couldn't imagine using a 24 inch TN panel.

So due to the CCFL buzz, the reflectivity of the plastics, and the TN panel, I'm not keeping this monitor.

So, I'll next be trying to get a BenQ FP241VW.

I'm also curious about the size. If you check the specifications for both monitors the physical size of the monitors chassis’s are identical the only thing that changes is the screen size, but looking at images of both they look identical even the bezels look the same. Makes me wonder if there was an error with the original BWs being advertised as 22 when they may have actually been 21.6, I'll have to measure my BWs and see if they are22 or 21.6.
