Samsung 172X - my first thoughts

I just bought one of these.. from australia.. so its PVA i heard that some parts of the world they were making TN versions of these..

Out of the box.. first impressions is of course what a beautiful screen it was.. quite sterdy not as light as i thought it would be.

Previously i was using a 17" Sony trinitron

Initially i was running in 640x480 and all i can say about this is that it looked DISGUSTING.. i was shocked.. my trinitron did 640x480 beautifully but this was terrible (maybe it was my old geforce2) i dont know but i was shocked and i felt terrible that i had spent this money on such rubbish. BUT.. in the native resolution 1280... it looked SUPERB.. amazing.. i could not honestly see the difference between the CRT and the LCD in terms of picture quality.

BONES TO PICK:
-When i go to screensaver..click blank.. and then display it.. i see that the bottom and top of the monitor is slightly brighter... Can anyone explain this?
-The buttons on the LCD are quite difficult to use
-I did the solitaire test and i noticed slight ghosting
-I played starcraft... and because the resolution in that game cannot be changed it looked TERRIBLE. much much MUCH! worse than on my CRT.

PROS:
-I played the matrix fight sequence with no ghosting
-picture quality is amazing (this is my first LCD)
-One thing i noticed.. even now as i make this post.. is the surrounding black background on this webpage looks amazing.. i've never seen such a beautiful black lol
-Looks gorgeous
-and i'll say it again.. in the native resolution i can't imagine a better picture quality

That's an interesting problem about the Starcraft resolution. It uses 800 x 600, correct? So what exactly does it look like, is there just a small windows that plays Starcraft and then black screen around it? Or are the pixels stretched?

starcraft is actually 640x480..
The pixels are all stretched and it just looks shocking..

if you've ever played Half-life in 320x480 thats what it looks like.. the colour the textures its all disgusting...

I downloaded something which let me play starcraft in a 640x480 window which made it look MUCH better.. but still its no fun having your desktop around it
