Samsung 172x *is* out!

If this version pans out, it'll be the LCD I get for sure :).

We'll just have to wait n see.

Cheers,

I just called to ask about it, and the guy just looked it up on the Samsung site and changed what they had even though he said it was probably just the manufacturer fudging the number.

Still, with monitorsdirects risk free guarantee, there's not much risk involved.

Also noticed this is in stock at buy.com but their listed specs are even worse.

Couldn't get the sales guy at monitorsdirect to call the wherehouse to confirm what the boxes say.

$17 risk. 30-days to return it for a refund, but you must pay shipping one way...$17 to me.

I already ordered it and will see what it looks like.

Not too happy about the 160/140 view range since it isn't too good for pivoting. The 140 isn't much and it becomes the Horz when you pivot.

I've got the Sony X73 right now which has the same 160/140 and it does handle the pivot well either.

Anyway, if the Samsun 172x isn't all that great I might check out the 173P since it has 170/170 and great colors. Heard gamings is pretty good on it actually, but that was only one review.

I was just checking out this monitor at newegg....I'm ordering my new system as soon as I get back from vacation and I'm desperate for a good gaming LCD as I don't want to get a huge-ass CRT. Hopefully this will deliver.

Yep.. it looks to be a 12ms monitor, as for the first company to product it... I wonder what other companies will use the base lcd to make their own... heres the link to the USA Samsung 172x webpage.

As for canada... we can buy it at Canada Computers :)

[edit] after a bit looking around, I found two reviews.. one from Pc Stats which raved bout how the panel looked, and another.. from Tom's Hardware which I know you all respect.
Needless to say.. the monitor is CRAP for gaming and tv viewing... in toms testings.. they say it's comparable to the old 25ms ones! OUCH!

argh.....

ALL EXISTING REVIEWS OF THE 172X ARE OF THE "OLD" 25ms-ESQUE PANEL.

there are no reviews as of yet of the proper, retail release of the 12ms monitor.

copied from the other 172x post

what i said:

"what i can't understand worth a damn is, why would they send out units to be reviewed with a 25ms panel if the final version is supposed to be a 12ms panel? that would be like sending out a car to be reviewed and going 'oh btw, the interior and engine are gonna be completely different, but review this one'

just doesn't make any sense to me."
