I have a Samsung 172x and it seems to be having a kind of refresh problem in games. First I should say that I don't think this is the motion blur that is common with LCDs. The problem is hard to explain but it looks like the screen is refreshing very slowly when the whole picture on the screen is being re-drawn (I know LCDs don't refresh like CRTs but this is the best way I can describe it), this creates lines (usuall 1 to 3) horizontally across the screen. It looks like the top 3rd has the new image, the next third has the older image, and the bottom third has the oldest image. This happens when the whole screen is being re-drawn, for example in a first person view if I turn the character around in circles and the view is constantly re-drawn with a new slighty l different image (an image slightly to he right or left of the previous one). This means the images don't match up completely so it looks yuck. I can't really play any games like this, it hurts my eyes.
UPDATE: I have just checked in Doom 3 and it has the same problem but now I can also see that sometimes there is just one band, about 1cm wide and horizontally accross the whole screen, that is out of sync with the rest of the image and it flickers and moves up and down the screen. I can see this just by strafing (or moving sideways) left or right. While the character is moving consistantly left or right and the image is being constantly re-drawn the above problems occur continuously making it very difficult to watch. I can also now notice this problem just browsing long web pages when I scroll down or up very quickly.
The reason I don't think this is motion blur is because nothing really blurs and it happens with just one small movement, it doesn't even need a fast action game, and this is a 12ms LCD so I don't think it should blur that easy.
I am using the DVI connector on the LCD and a Geforce 6800 Ultra.
Thank you,
Aston
