I say eclipse. Although the g15 is sweet, it seems over kill in my opinion.

it depends on what you want out of a keyboard as the two keyboards mentioned are in different leagues imo.

Check products by timberwolf... I almost went for one of those over a G15... read teh reviews... i

i cry because my eclipse doesn't have media buttons.

You cry because of that? I rejoice. It's getting impossible to find a keyboard that either doesn't have media buttons, doesn't have the arrow keys/pgup pgdn panel messed with, have a small backspace key, or have a weird backslash/enter key configuration.

I'd go with the G15 myself, as I don't need the light up keys.

I prefer the Saitek myself, but I'd wait around till the Eclipse 2 comes out.

Truly variable lighting level, as well as chooseable colors!

The G15 is a great keyboard, but I have no use for the macro-buttons or the LCD. One advantage though that I wish the Saitek had, was a built in USB Hub.

G15. Even without downloading extra LCD programs, the default media info and time/date are pretty useful to me. I don't use the macros much, but they can be fun in games. I made one for CS:S that constantly flickers the flashight as fast as possible, until I press the button again :)

I have the G15, my bro has the Saitek. If you want a no-frills, standard, backlit keyboard then the saitek is for you. However i suspect that in most cases, if a person wants a backlit keyboard, he would also appreciate some multimedia keys as well. The LCD is also an added plus. I like being able to see monitor my bandwidth while I game so I don't have to periodically alt-tab out to see if things have finished downloading.

G15 has lit up keys 2. BTW, a few ppl chose other in the the post, but never posted the item.

If you plan on using the macros / LCD, then get the only keyboard on the market with those features - the G15.

My only issue with it is that it's big. I've had to find a new home for my mouse, because my slide-out keyboard draw is dominated by the G15.

Saitek = Budget and incredibly cheaply made products at an inflated price because they're targetted towards a specific segment (gamers) and nothing else. The majority of their stuff is garbage IMO (I'm basing this after their keyboards and the joystick I owned and replaced with CH products just recently)

Logitech = More bloat than you will ever need, horribly innefficiant drivers that leave a massive footprint. The actually quality of their products is pretty good though.

If I were you I would pocket the extra 60 or so and don't fall for a keyboard that is specifically marketed towards gamers (suseptible to hype and willing to blow money on trivial things) since these gaming keyboards are all bells and whistles IMO and don't really do all that much for gaming.

I'm looking for a new keyboard as well and chances are I will get one of these

I've had the original blue backlit saitek keyboard since they came out and it's still working great, zero problems. So, you could say they are cheap but I don't really agree because my experience with this board suggests otherwise.

How can you say that? The g15 has the switch to block the windows key which is a great gaming feature. As well as the macro g buttons which are also great for mmo'er/rts's etc. What would you expect a keyboard to do for gaming? play for you? :p

G15 ftw!

Wow I had no idea there were so many backlit keyboards. I just got a saitek a week or two ago (toms hardware recommended it....getting skeptical after their razor review failed to mention some problems I have). Its simple, looks good, love the lighting (though I cannot compare it to others), and its damn nice to type on. Real smooth, cant say anything bad about it. Just dont get a razor, most uncomfortable mouse I have ever used, and lame ass side button setup to boot. Logitech all the way!

i had a saitek for the longest time .. just got a g15 yesterday .. not bad .. gonna use it until august when razer releases their keyboard ..

i just got the g15 and 1 day i already love it!!!!... if the lcd is to much for you and you dont need it... check out logitech's website.. they are coming out with a non lcd version... G11 or something...

I chose the Eclipse because of its simplicity. The lack of media, favorite, shortcut, and navigation extras is great. As far as poor build quality,,,,, The thing is built very well, on par with logitech. I don't see how you can say that it is poorly built and then say that you would get some offbrand setup instead.

I never saw the point. During normal web browsing I can click the pause or next track button faster than you can go back to your keyboard and press the button there.

I can usually use the media controls faster than finding WMP then clicking on next (I don't have it in my task bar). And the volume on the keyboard controls system volume which for me is a lot faster and easier than going to volume control on the task bar.
It's mostly useful though playing a game full screen.

Maybe I just like the media controls a lot more because of the media display on the LCD. I've never used it on any other keyboard so I can't compare.

how hard is it to get that on the screen ?
seriously as easy as downloading one thing, and setting it to run in the Logitech Control Panel.

i really like the siatek eclipse over the g15, the main thing for me is taht it comes in RED :D the look of the eclipse 2 is absolutely horrid to me, the simple saitek eclipse's are just pure sexy, but again, thats just me
although the saitek may lack alot of the features that teh g15 has, it all boils down to if you use them
to control media, i just do a little alt-tab and use my 510 back/forward buttons to rotate between songs or use the volume meter on the keyboard
yeah it may not have an lcd and such or have media keys, it's still a sexy keyboard ;)

what, that thin layer of plastic? That's just to protect it from scratches and is supposed to come off. There's also one above that, and another one on the LCD I think.
