Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a new gaming notebook and I am stuck between choosing these two models from Xoticpc. Due to tight space in my room, I am having to part with my desktop collection:( ( 4 to be exact) but still have an AMD/ATI and Intel/Nvidia desktop for heavy gaming and encoding.

I currently have an Asus G60JW I bought a year ago and since my brother is going to college in June, I figure on giving it to him.

The NP8170 would be configured as such:
Core i7 2920xm
GTX 485M
8 - 12GB DDR3 1333
2x 500GB 7200RPM HDD
6x Blue Ray drive/DVD Burner
Intel wifi 6300

The NP 7280 would be configured as such:
Core i7 970
GTX 485M or GTX 460M's in SLI
8 or 12GB DDR3 1333
2x 500GB 7200RPM HDD
6x Blue Ray drive/DVD Burner
Intel Wifi 6300

Basically it comes down to the 970 vs the 2920xm and GTX 485M vs GTX 460M's in SLI. Both configured come to about the same price. My budget is $3200. Any advice or opinions is greatly appreciated :)

Why not wait till June?

You probably won't be able to have a 8170 arrive at your house till April.

I'd go with the 8170 for less weight (12lbs vs 9lbs) and the cooler running CPU. Buying the extreme edition cpu seems like a waste of money to me. I'd just get the default cpu and put that money into a nice SSD, maybe get 2 for raid 0. You already have multiple desktops so spending 1k on a laptop cpu seems like a bad idea. You would notice faster load times with an SSD.

The 7280 is a big heavy machine, i would only go that route if you were to really need the cpu power of a 1366, if you going to encode with your desktop, then i would probably just go with 8170.
