Sager Notebook w/ two Dell LCD Monitors Issues...

Hey all,

So I have a Sager Notebook with three outputs.

I'm using the Display Port to DVI-D Dell LCD and Mini Display Port to Dell LCD outputs.

Both monitors look great but the notebook itself everything is VERY small.
If I make it bigger, the LCDs get way too big.

Sager Notebook: 1920 x 1080
Dell 24 inch monitor 1920 x 1200 (Primary)
Dell 20 inch monitor 1600 x 1200

The issue I assume is the resolution is not high enough on the notebook or whatever... I set it to 1600x900 to look a bit better, but it's blurry and still not as big as the Dell LCDs.

Is there a software or ANYTHING I can buy, adapters, etc. to get this notebook display looking good like the monitors?

Thanks!

What operating system are you using? Are you duplicating displays, or extending? Duplicating will almost always cause screen distortion between different resolution displays. Extending shouldn't result in this situation.

I ask what os because Windows 8 is good with dpi scaling between different displays, and you can probably fix it that way. Windows 7 and lower, you're out of luck with different ppi displays, which, if I read your post correctly is the problem.

Unfortunately I am indeed extending and using Windows 7.

Isn't there some type of add-on maybe that can resolve this?

If not, what type of new monitors should I buy?
I do not want Windows 8....

Thanks!

No, unfortunately there isn't much you can do about dpi scaling issues on different ppi displays. And even Windows 8 isn't perfect, but better than its predecessors. I sadly have this exact problem with my work laptop: I have a 1080p 15" laptop and a 1080p 27" external monitor. :(

Got it.

If I want to buy two new monitors for this Sager notebook, what specs do I need to ensure they have? Thanks.

to not see this dpi scaling issue, you'd need all monitors to have (roughly) the same PPI. So the same dimensions and same resolutions among all monitors. But that's not realistic with a laptop monitor.

What I tend to do is just not use the laptop's display (much). Without dynamic DPI scaling options, there isn't much else you can do. If you tend to use only certain applications on your laptop display (such as one browser), you can use ctrl+scrool wheel to increase/decrease text size, but that really only applies to rendered text--things like menus, buttons, etc won't change size. :(

Damn.
Do you have any recommendations though for hardware? (Monitors)

I never had this issue with this 24 in monitor connected via VGA(!) and my old laptop :(

Probably because the ppi were fairly close.

I've looked this up too; short of better dynamic dpi scaling across monitors by the os, you just kinda have to deal with it. Like I said, I work primarily off my external monitors and mainly ignore my laptop screen.

Your other option is to sit closer to your laptop screen so things don't appear as small.
