Safely Remove Hardware Issue

Hey guys. I went through two MP3 Players in six months. I have Windows XP and I've been told that you don't always have to safely remove hardware with XP but I always do anyway. When I load music on my MP3 Player, it's fine at first. Then in a week or so, I try to change music, following all directions in the user manual, and the darn MP3 Player wont play any more. I have an RCA Lyra player. Model # RD2011A. I load the music, safely remove the player and when I turn it on, it just lights up and shuts off again. It then tells me to insert a disc to load when I try to hook it back up to my puter.

I know I'm a little off base here but any suggestions? Thanks in advance......
