Safe Voltages for 2.26B?

i just plugged my old processor into my dad's IC7-G mobo to see if i can get higher clocks from it than on my old motherboard, which wouldn't let it go past a dismal 2.35 GHz. on the IC7-G it seems to max out at 2.6 GHz (153x17) on stock voltage (1.5 V in BIOS) (maybe it can go a bit higher, but it's untsable at 2.65 GHz).
so im wondering what voltage to bump it up to next. 1.525 V and 1.5 V look safe but i dont think that will let me raise the FSB by much. what about 1.575 V and 1.6 V? are those safe for everyday use?
my processor is P4 2.26B (533 MHz FSB) B0 stepping.

For safety and part longevity, I personally take voltage jumps one step at a time. If bumping it up one step doesn't work, i'll give it one more step up, ect... then i will find my max for the new voltage. The key objective is using as little voltage as possible for heat reasons, while still being stable. Give it 1.525V and work up from there.
 
I personally like to say under 1.65 for the pre-prescott P4's. But stay as low as possible, no need for unwanted heat when trying to get 50 last mhz.
 
B0 stepping chips were horrible OCer's, 2.6-2.8 is probably a lucky max for that chip.
 
well, i tried bumpig it up to 1.55 V, and then to 1.6 V. the results were not very good - i set the FSB at 165 to give me a 2805 MHz overclock, while using 1.6 V, and i got the blue screen after some stress testing. so i guess i might as well stick with 2.6 GHz at stock voltage, since thats perfectly stable and since so many more volts are needed for a relatively small increase in MHz.
if i raise the voltage even more, do you think i can get to 3 GHz? ive heard that some processors just like certain voltages more than others, so it may be possible...

EDIT: would it be safe to bump it to 1.75 V or even 1.8 V just to see how far it can go like that? it highly unlikely to cause damage at a high voltage as long as its only for some quick testing - right?

i have a few B0 chips here, and none of them go above 2.6ghz. i also have some C1 mobiles, and those top out at about 2.8. 1.75v or 1.8v is not advisable and would probably gain you nothing due to the extra heat the chip will be producing. if you arent going to run it there all teh time, why shorten the chips life by doing it at all?

No, it is not safe to go that high even for a short period of time. There is a real possibility that you could burn it up immediatly by setting it to that voltage. Trust us, there is a reason why they call it Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome.

Man those northwood B's honestly suck, if you want to do some decent overclocking, ditch that 2.26 and get a 2.4C or higher.

I used to have a 2.66B that would only do 3.0 MAX no matter what volts. Seems like tey dont even care about voltage, the cores just plain suck for overclocking.
 
the reason i was asking is that i did a little searching online and saw a lot of 2.26B's going past 3 GHz, most of them at pretty high voltages. i wanted to see what my chip could do with 1.7 V or so, but according to you guys that isnt safe, so ill just stick with the 2.6 GHz overclock on stock voltage.
