Safe to backup running Outlook using Nero BackItUp?

I'm using Nero BackItUp to do backups - a fine backup utility IMHO.

One thing I did notice is that if you try to backup Outlook's data files (the ones containing the emails) while Outlook is running, BackItUp will give you a warning.

Is it possible that a corrupt copy of Outlook's data files will be backed up leading to potential data loss if you leave Outlook runing?
