safe oc for 6800gt

I just got my card in last night, right now i have it at 430/1150 mhz and I was wondering if that overkill, I flashed the bios so it give it 1.4v
 
Some people have said that 6800GTs can die at 440/1200 mine did. :( Anyway every card is unique, but most 6800gts can get to Ultra speeds which yours did. You might want to get a NV Silencer 5 for it as 1.4 volts might be overkill for the stock cooler. Run some benchmarks on a loop and see if you get anyy instability, if it freezes, BSODS or resets lower your speeds by 5 mhz or so until its stable. Good Luck!
 
thanks for the info, yeah I am definetly looking at getting the nv silence, also should i look at taking the heatsink off and applying as5??
 
Increasing the voltage _will_ shorten the life expectancy of the card. But, whether 1.4v is enough to shorten it by an amount you care about is an open question :) Overclocking by itself doesn't significantly alter life expectancy, other than causing it to run hotter.
 
ok thanks for the info do you think 1.4 is safe or should i just go back until i get an nv5 back to 1.3 volts right now I have it with 1.4 volts with the moded bios and core is at 420 and ram at 1.1 ghz should i knock the core down to 400 to play it safe??. so far so good, idle temps are 62c and full load is 74c??
 
1.4v is not a huge increase and will likely not cause issues. Many users report success with that voltage.
 
My LEADTEK is running at 425/1100 stable, did'nt flash bios or get an nv cooler, course a many a penny gave its life for that fat ass copper cooler that came stock on that thing, its HUGE!, but damn does it work good............. :D
 
Increasing the volts that much will reduce the life expectency of the card. What brand do you have? I have a leadtek 6800gt, and it OCs just fine without needing another cooler. If I only had a one slot cooling solution, however, I'd definitely want an aftermarket cooler with those kinds of speeds, and presumably, temps.
 
how is the leadtek winfast 6800gt anyway? i'm thinking of getting that just due to the cooling it offers. whats the highest oc can you guys muster with that thing; taking into account of stability.
 
i have the BFG 6800gt OC card, what i will probably do in the next week or so will put some AS5 on the card. The only problem is finding a screwdriver that small to take off the heatsink.BTW How much shorter will the lifespan of my card be?? I will probably have this card for at least a year or so.

Also where can I get the stock BFG 6800gt OC bios, I have the stock one that was on another thread but it reduces the speeds to 350/1000 while the OC specs are 370/1050 on this site.

Mines running fairly conservatively at 420/1150, though I've seen people able to move their past that mark....
 
Ive test mine all the way to 431/1150 stable and then backed it off to 425/1100....i cant complain at all Leadtek did a hell of a job on the stock cooling for this thing
