safe mode using projector

I have an htpc that I've built. I am using a Panasonic PT-L500U projector with it. Everything works fine with the projector and video card display, except that it doesn't display the POST menu and will not project anything in safe mode. I am using a modded 9500pro and I using the DVI connection to send the signal to the display. The strangest thing about this POST screen and safe mode predicament is that I used to be able to see these screens using my projector before. The only think that I can think of that may have changed between this time is that I may have switched the card I had in the machine (a Radeon 9000) to the 9500 pro. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

So anyway, I stuck my Radeon 9000 back in the PC and magically, everything works fine. I guess the 9500 sucks.
