safe CPU voltages?

im trying to get a better understanding as to what CPU voltage numbers are safe and which ones arent. i understand it might depend on chip. and u only need to up the voltage if your OCing.

i have my 2800+@ 2.2 ive had it at up to 2.3 but it becomes unstable. but i havent really messed with the voltages that much because i dont know whats safe and what isnt. i dont wanna burn the cpu through.

also real quick what is graphics aperature size?
 
Its mostly temperature dependant. As long as you dont break 60c on the cpu you will probably be fine. I've given my old xp chips about 1.8v on air before, but definately not on stock cooling. Just take small steps with the voltage until you get stable, and keep a close eye on temperatures.
