safe C2D temps for a 6300

I noticed my temps for cpu at 60 c running orthos and the 2 core temps around 50-55c ...this is accourdnt to speed fan and everest, and core temp ( intel TAT does not seem to like my mobo ) Are these safe temps?

O the mobo I using is a asus p5n32-e sli mobo...so far ive gotten to 2.9 atm and was wondering if i could push it further even though the temps seem a bit high

For 24/7 use you can run a C2D at 70C as reported by CoreTemp and never have a stability problem due to your cpu running too hot.

Stop it! I can clock mine around 3650MHz with a crap load of voltage (I believe 1.51v idle / 1.48v load) and load right below 70C (idle high 40s)

That's another 250MHz I'm missing out on, and I know my RAM can take it. Hehe. I could probably go further but I quit to go back to a safe 3400. 3508 was 24-hr stable, btw.

As it is, with the signature settings, I idle at 39 and load in the mid 50s. Gaming never hits 50C. Thank you Antec 900!
 
kent: The happy spot for my E6400 seems to be 425 X 8 = 3400 MHz and 1.392 volts under Orthos load just like yours.

With a pile of extra voltage 3600 MHz or so is possible but for 24/7 you can't beat the easy going combo above. No stress and stable as a rock.

Maybe someday when my local computer store gets some Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme coolers in I'll take the plunge and see if I can step it up a notch. :D

I'm tempted to go higher, I just don't like being told up to 70C load is ok because then I'll go jack up the voltage and kill everything :D

I think 3.7 or 3.8 is possible with my setup, I just doubt the additional stress and voltage would be worth it.

Stay at 7psi or turn the knob up to 10psi :D
 
For gaming, there's a surprising amount of headroom in a C2D.

When my CPU is at 75C grinding away in Orthos if I kill Orthos and switch to a game of NFS Carbon at the same settings, the temps drop down to a much nicer 57C. Run SpeedFan v.4.32 and set it to chart mode while gaming to see how your system does.

When pushing my C2D to the brink with full Orthos load and full volts I found that 70C to 72C was good but it would usually reboot after a while if I tried to run it at 75C or beyond.

70C max works best for me.
 
it's kind of to early to tell if 70C 24/7 will have a long run effect on the CPU with the changes of Electron Migration happening overtime at such high temps. We will find out sometime this year when people start complaning about dead CPU because they ran them to hot for to long. for now I think 60C 24/7 is a safer temp.
 
70C WON'T HURT THAT CPU. Just think, Intel designed that thing to run in oem type boxes, for YEARS, with no issues. You think those oem boxes have good cooling? Most don't....


And there is a reason Intel allowed 85c Tjunction temps, because it can handle it. 70c is probably pretty close to what a stock box would run with typical stock cooling in a shitty low airflow case.

That being said, my cpu only hits 62c-63c as reported by coretemp when crunching ORTHOS, 52c-53c under two instances of Folding, and only 48c-49c when playing CoD2.

Anyone care to remember the NSDS from a couple of years ago? Northwood Sudden Death Syndrome. People running the 1.6 -> 2.2 and 1.8 -> 2.4 for around six months with the "safe" voltage bump and the processors died.

As I remember, Intel did RMA a many good number of them and didn't bitch about the additional voltage.
