What would be a better ram solution?

Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 5-5-5-15

or

Corsair XMS2 DDR2 1066 7-7-7-20
 
Always go for speed to overclock the cpu as much as possible and go 1:1 fsb:memory ratio. Dial in the best timings after you reach full fsb speed. Don't let the RAM hold your overclock back.
 
would it be a smart idea to just throw thw ddr2 1066 with the higher timinsg in there even if I cant lower the timings after?

Is it obviously better to get DDR2 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings?


also which brand of ram is known for allowing higher overclock speeds and lower timings? I have used alot fo corsair but it as never allowed big overclocking thresholds.
 
Memory overclocking is a science unto itself. Why do you say you can't loosen the timings? Basically you sacrifice memory timings (loosen) for speed (FSB). What cpu, motheboard - where do you want to go oc wise? We need more info. If you can't change the memory timings as you need, you've bought the wrong motherboard and/or ram.

i can change the timings, im talking about the ram not running stable with lower timings.

I have hit 3.2ghz stable with ddr2 800 without touching the timings just tweaking the ram voltage a slight bit and messing around with the fsb and mutiplier.

I am shooting for 3.6ghz my temps are still so I want to squeeze a little more speed.
 
Let's focus on the issue - ram errors at stock fsb, voltage and cpu speed, yes? New ram time. ddr2 @ 1066.

try 6-6-6-18 with overclock, see you have to relax the timings. Are you at stock volts?
 
the ddr2 1066 ram was ordered and still didnt come in, my current ram is the ddr 2 800 so ill get back to you by monday.
 
7-7-7-20! Holy Shit you can pick up 2000mhz DDR3 with lower timings than that. The bandwith and latency must be horrific.

Go with the 800mhz kit, no doubt about it.
