I've got all the components for my first PC build ready to go, except for case fans. I'm completely confused on what to do.

I have an Asus Z77 Sabertooth motherboard & Fractal R4 case. I have a NF-F12 PWM fan as a replacement fan for the Hyper 212 EVO.

Now, what I'm confused on is whether to get three NF-A14-PWM or FLX fans and how should I connect them, along with the CPU fan?

1) Use CPU fan on CPU_FAN (I have a NF-F12 PWM fan as a replacement fan for the Hyper 212 EVO. ) and three FLX fans for CHA_FAN1-3.

OR

2) Use a splitter for all 4 fans and plug them all into CPU_FAN.

Is that right? If I did option 2, I wouldn't be able to control each fan individually, right?

What would be the difference between hooking up 3 FLX fans to motherboard vs R4 case fan controller?

Thank you for the advice. I believe that is what I will do (option 1).

Can anyone tell me what the lowest RPM will be with the FLX model and the asus z77 motherboard?

Also, is there any recommended settings? For example, if temps get to, let's say 50, what should I set the fans to?

You can run the fan tuning software in AI Suite III and take it from there on the speeds versus temps I think. Downlaod the latest version of AI Suite III from the motherboard support page on the ASUS site. Aslo update UEFI to the latest version as AI Suite III and the UEFI version used go hand in hand.
