So, I just got a second 7970 and plopped it in. Reinstalled drivers, etc. But Windows is not seeing the second card, which is the original, I just moved it into the second PCIe lane. Am I missing something here?

Mobo - Sabertooth X79
GPUs - Visiontek 7970 Ghz & Asus Matrix 7970 Ghz

Asus is in the primary slot.

Maybe try to switch the cards slots and see what happens? Could be a bad pci-e slot on your board.
Before that, maybe check to ensure the power cables are plugged firmly into the cards.

Also, may need to uninstall all drivers and CCC and try again. When I had amd, I added a 3rd 6950, and it was a pain in the ass to make it pick up the third card. I had to uninstall/reinstall all AMD drivers etc. Then it was fine.

Just a couple ideas.

Ok, I am home from work, so I have more time to work on it. It is only recognizing GPUs in the first PCIe slot. It does not recognize anything in the 2nd or 3rd PCIe x16 slots, I'm not sure why.

I really doubt that both slots would be dead on a new motherboard. I could see one slot, but two?

Anyone have any ideas?

That would be odd that 2 of those slots would be dead, but it can happen.
Since you know both cards work. Try one card in your second slot only and see if you can get video from it. That will help rule out if it's an issue with the pci slots.
Also, which bios is running on your board? Probably a shot in the dark, but maybe try updating it to see if that helps any.

I figured it out, I had to set the PCIe slots to 2.0 instead of 3.0 and they picked up fine.

The only problem that I have now, is that the Asus Matrix card is 3 slot, and I need that as primary since it has the 3 DPs that I need to have so Eyefinity doesn't tear. But with that in slot 1, it overheats with the second card in because it can't get enough airflow.

Is there a way to change the primary PCIe slot on the Sabertooth X79? I need it to be the 2nd slot instead of the first.
