Not so much an issue with the fan itself, but the fact that it blocks the PCI 1X slot.

With my old 5870 I was able to place my Xonar XTS in the 3rd PCI 1X slot due to the reference design cooler, but now with my new 7970, I can't fit the Xonar STX in the PCI 1X slot anymore, so it's in my 2nd PCI 16X slot.

Should I remove the assistant fan and put the sound card on top, or just have the motherboard / components run a tad cooler and stick with PCI 8X speeds? The difference in temps is 5-8C on all the components under load. (Under 60c on all, USB 3.0 being the highest at 59c) (51c with the assistant fan on)

Sabertooth P67
Gigabyte 7970

850W AX Corsair Modular

90GB OCZ Agility 2
Dell Ultrasharp U2711

I'm only concerned because of the higher resolution and higher end graphics card, I know there's not too much of a difference at 1050/1080P and a mid-range card.

Sorry to be a bother with the silly question, just trying to get everything ironed out :)

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Edit: I've also thought about returning the card for a sapphire, but I don't think it would be worth the hassle, especially since I lose out on $45 tax plus shipping.
