Hello,
unfortunately my trusted E7200 died. At the same time I have some problems with my RAM, so I want to replace that as well.
I could simply replace the broken parts by getting a new socket 775 CPU, the Wolfdale E6700 maybe, and some DDR2 RAM. At the same time this might be an opportunity to upgrade. But with the new Intel architecture around the corner, it is also not the best time to go for i3 or i5.
In general I dislike the idea of buying 'old hardware'. But since I'm mostly satisfied with the performance of my system (see signature), I like the idea of saving a lot of cash and just postponing the big upgrade.
What do you think? If I stay with socket 775 I might be able to stay around $200 for the revival, a switch in platform would most likely be more expensive.
