I'm running an old socket 754 Athlon 64 3700+ with OCZ Platinum Rev.2 memory on a DFI Lanparty UT nf3 250gb mobo

Since the RAM can be run with either really fast timings or really high clock speeds, what is the best overclocking performance match for the processor?

On the one hand I can run the RAM at high frequency to squeeze more bandwidth out of the single channel memory bus, or take advantage of the low latency of the RAM in combo with the A64's memory controller... what to do?? what is better??

Help - thanks!

In my good old s754 days I always had better overall performance by going with high memory MHz and relaxed timings. I had some Crucial Ballistix that was rated at CL2-2-2-8 DDR-400 but it performed better when set to Cl2.5-3-3-8 DDR-500 and the Crucial even liked CL2.5-2-2-8 at DDR500 and a little beyond.

Every combination is unique so you have to see what your memory and motherboard like. A little extra memory voltage can help out as well but not all boards support that.

Why not run a simple benchmark like SuperPi mod and do an 8M test and compare the two. You'll get more info that way that directly applies to your combo. Good luck.

hmm... thanks!

Is there a certain compromise/limit where it becomes no longer worth it to relax the memory timings in favor of memory speed?

Also, the 3700+ clawhammer I'm using doesn't have much overclocking headroom, so I'm using a non 1:1 memory/fsb divider :(
