based on image quality (for internet use mostly) is the samsung S27A850D better than the dell U2410?

for internet use, I'll go with Dell, since they have the same resolution, but Dell is 24", Samsung is 27" which I believe that the graphic will go sharper (for Dell) IMHO :)

27850D is 2560x1440 while the U2410 is 1920x1200. You can display much more info on the Samsung.

Couldn't pick a worse display/waste of $ for internet use than the U2410 due to the aggressive AG coating which makes everything look grainy. Paying the premium for the U2410's wide gamut and ergonomics is a huge waste of $.

Here is a quick sum-up, of the cons of SA850D:

1. Backlihgt uniformity is unacceptable
2. sRGB mismatch does not seem to be supported by appropriate electronics and factory settings
3. The monitor is not fully height adjustable (3 more inches!)
4. Optional attachable sound bar speakers would complete the monitor's application for multimedia status

It seems if you are not bothered by backlight uniformity, then its a okay choice.

Like mentioned U2410 got aggressive AG coating, however it depends much on the person i believe.
Personally i've seen U2410, and prefer it much more than my current TN screen. It's not bad.

U2410 is already 2 years old, and i would advice you to look at newer monitors.
Are the U2412M of any interest? or perhaps ZR2440w? Higher dot pitch, makes it text bigger and it is easier to read (just so you keep that in mind)
You haven't mentioned any budget, if you want top notch colour quality. You should look for a true LED monitor, RGB LED, not W-LED. (Very expensive, don't remember which models got it)

I think for internet use, the U2410 is overkill. You should look for the U2412M which is a lot cheaper and better suited for your needs. The U2410 is a monitor aimed for a very specific public.

1. budge $1000
2. i want the biggest size possible
3. i have one u2410
4. i am interested on the higher resolution
5. what do you guys think about the Apple's ACD, and new HP ZR2740w? <--- for internet (desktop) use mostly.

I've seen the Apple LCD and my subjective impression is that it's really great. Its only drawback (in my opinion) is that it doesn't have a DVI/HDMI connection. You'll have to buy an adapter if your video card doesn't have a Mini DisplayPort output.

OP, I have the S27A850 and would choose it over the Dell or the HP, hands down.

With your budget, it's a no-brainer to me.

The only alternative I would consider would be three 24" displays side-by-side. That would be too expensive for S24A850's, so I might consider the lesser quality Dell U2412M's if I went that route.

BTW, the 27" Samsung will go plenty low enough, it's the 24" that isn't as adjustable.

thanks NM156. i am glad to know that. i think i'll go with the samsung after all, also amazing looking monitor.
