S2-IS Focus problems?

I had this camera repaired in September '06 (purchased in December '05) due to the camera's overall difficulty in auto-focusing close range. It seemed that it was okay when focusing on subjects in the distance, however close-range (within 4 feet), even on macro and super-macro settings, the camera simply would not focus properly. I received the camera after being repaired back in September, and it worked perfectly. They replaced the "Optical unit, updated the firmware, and cleaned" as the report said.

However, several days ago, I started experiencing the exact problem as before, under the same conditions. Wasn't dropped either time, totally randomly started happening. Earlier today, I was sitting outside and tried to focus on my knee. After around 10 or 12 times trying, it just wouldn't happen. I e-mailed Canon to see if they would repair the return problem under an extended warranty, but I doubt thats going to happen. Just wondering if this was a common issue with the S2. Anybody hear of it before?

EDIT: Also wondering, assuming I get this fixed, what options as far as lenses are available? I do mainly day shots, but I also do night/low light shots with no flash. Like outdoor stuff at dusk. I enjoy macro shooting, as well as telephoto.

My Canon S1 IS seemed to have focus problems but it was so new at the time I thought nothing of it. A lot of my photographs are noisy compared to a cheaper newer camera I got. Make sure that on the manual focus that you arent zoomed in too much or it will not allow certained macro ranges (atleast the S1 and some other cameras didnt)

I used to get a lot of bg noise even at an ISO of 50. Canon wanted half the worth of the camera to fix a 10 center bulb :S . Hope that helps?!?

My bulb blew on my SI IS so i got a cheap Samsung S850 for 200 at walmart and its working better than my canon ... suprisingly better and cheaper. great auto and manual focus without the aggrivating focusing my S1 IS had.

Ill post some pics soon

Thanks for the reply. I heard back from Canon, and they're going to take a look at it for me again. I want to eventually get different lenses for it; maybe something exists with a manual focus ring? Definitely a macro and telephoto lens at first.

Of course. But this is the camera I have now, so I figured I could do what I can with it, and not worry about upgrading now. I realize I'd be better off, but I don't think it's completely necessary as of right now.:)
