Going to be interesting to both see real benchmarks, as well as availability.

Here's a look at some of the initial search results on newegg:

Radeon RX 400 Series, Desktop Graphics Cards, Video Cards & Video Devices, Components - Newegg.com

Looks like all the major players will have a model...most using the 8GB, which is a tactic we've seen before (PR the $199 price tag, but have no actual 4GB models available at launch). No pricing yet from newegg, but I'd imagine a premium for the first shipment.

I'll likely wait 1-2months for availabilty to settle down, and pricing to likely come down (aka. wait for the first "sale").

I think availability will be fairly decent versus the fiasco with the FE and lack of cards within the 10 series launch.

i hope i can get a 8 gb for 229 and it should happen. amd is normally not quite as slezzy as nvidia is so i plan on getting one asap. however i still havent seen those 1070s for 379

Yeah the difference here is, while we *could* argue that the $199 Polaris pricing was a ruse... I'd have recommended buying the 8GB model anyway.
Those are starting at $239-$249, as far as we know, so still some shenanigans there.

of coarse just not as much as the founders edition bullshit

At least you get some value (or a lot depending on circumstances) for that $30-40, whereas with the FE you're literally paying more for less.

If miners are going to buy it, they'll likely go for the 4gb model, as when you are buying 6 cards it's pretty much one free vs same number of 8gb models..
Any calculating, penny pinching miner is going to realize another card is far better ROI than a slight bump on resale value down the road.

The Hash rate on the new 480's in horrendous for the power use. There was leaked benchmark putting it at 20MH/s

Oh what!? I'd seen 24-27 rumoured which is within 290X territory. That wouldn't be so bad but 20... dang that's 380? territory from memory. Must need further optimisation..

I thought GPU mining was dead.
It is for bitcoin. Other crypto currency it's still viable. But to be honest dedicated FPGA and ASICs are far more efficient. But not every ASIC can run the different types of Crypto currencies. And FPGA's are only marginally more efficient, provided they can be programmed the way necessary to make them viable.

Personally I think the crypto-currency market endangers itself every time a new currency comes out. It's like using tulip bulbs as currency. If it becomes too common with too many forms, people will wonder about the value of it and cause a market implosion.

I'm working off memory. And my numbers might have been non-OC. So take what I said with a grain of salt. I still consider them horrible compared to some solutions. But that all depends on your application.
