Super stoked for these - need to map out the rest of the parts though (got an AIO Corsair on my cpu so I only need the setup for my 2 480s).

Sure there is, I already have my loop and my monitors are only 1920x1200. This card is fine until I can get a 4K HDR monitor. Even if I had a 1080 I'd still have to buy a block for it, it's just how it goes when you water cool.

Yup agreed. In fact it really isn't reasonable to throw a midrange card into a loop unless a) you've gotten a block for a small amount of money/second hand prices, or b)using a cheap universal block. Why would you spend $200 on a card and put a $120 waterblock on it. I hope the block manufacturers price these accordingly. I only buy blocks for high end cards. Otherwise I might as well buy the next tier up in performance and keep it air cooled.

They are chokes, not VRMs (which are the small square metal guys that are very short in Z height, aka nearly flat)..They don't need heatsinks, and while completely open would never be a bad idea, they should get plenty of airflow in that arrangement..
 
Anyone have any guess on when these are coming out and what kits make sense for them? I'm looking at 360mm since I have room and want to reuse this setup for 2 Vegas down the road.

Vega is supposed to only have a total board power of 200W, but I'd plan for up to 300W because you're not going to run those stock.

Definitely don't mind over buying on the pump and radiator now so I can just plug and play with Vega. I'll wait and see what you all do before piecing my custom loop together (first timer here).
 
MB, I run a 360mm (60mm thick which low FPI which means more cooling with very little air movement which means zero noise) up top and a 230mm up front with dual push pull 200mm fans up front..All my 120mm AP-15 fans run @ 5V, and my 200s run @ 7V, and they do a kick ass job cooling my 290s clocked to the moon and my 3770K @ 5Ghz..I use a Swiftech MCP 655B (rebranded D5 variable speed) pump, and it works great..My first D5 lasted over 5.5 years running full speed 24/7..I just had one fail after a year which is a freak occurrence for these, and Swiftech is sending me a brand new replacement...

I am going to be selling that along with a Koolance 360mm rad and an AlphaCool 280mm radiator here on the forums next week..I like to spec at least 120mm per device (cpu, and each GPU) minimum, but strive for closer to ~200mm each since you can then OC to the moon and have zero noise while doing it.

Yea, I concur in regards to a model specific fullcover. On the lower end, watercoolers should invest in a good gpu only block.

Then one day you realize that your case is holding you back. That's when you look at your wallet and decide if you're all in or not. Time to put up or shut up.

He's talking about spending half the cost of the card on a block that is model specific which really doesn't make much sense. It's different and not nearly an issue when the blocks is 25% of the card or less, but 50%? On the low end as I suggested, wc'ers should have invested in a good gpu only block, then from card to card, generation to generation, they only have to invest in vrm cooling heatsinks.
 
Spend hundreds on a loop for midrange PC/GPU. Someone will justify it.
The same person can buy a GTX 1080 and run it quiet on air with double performance.
The entire situation of water cooling in general is not about cost effectiveness...it a a geek enthusiast thing their passionate about. (for the most part) People are the same way about spending money on cars. (And these people would never rationalize that kind of expense on pc's lol)
 
The XSPC one looks half decent, though I'd probably go for the EK block since it's single-slot.

Awesome thanks for the info. My case has room for a 360mm up front so that sounds like a good plan (and thanks for the 60mm thick info - most are 32mm that I've seen). If I can hit 1350mhz/2150mhz on air then we should all be able to hit 1400 or more.
 
Water blocks and custom cooling system is part of a build regardless the cost of the GPU. People put water blocks on CPU's at half the cost of a RX 480, make custom ones which cost even more then $100 etc. I say this is great stuff if you want to do something like this and have a super quiet, reliable configuration.

it is, IMHO specially when the whole point of this kind of cards is "budget" and "cost/performance"... which is certainly offset by the cost of the water parts, the card cost plus the parts to add to an existent custom loop would put you in the territory of a GTX 1070, what would be your choice? inferior performance with a watercooled card or a way superior performance with an air cooled card?.. again the targeted audience for this card are those with a tight budget so cost/performance are going always to be important, if we were talking about high-end cards then yes, you will be right.

That's why normally people with custom loops tend to not upgrade as frequent as others, first due the hassle of drain the loop to change water parts then second due the added cost if they want to keep using full blocks, this is of course a no-issue if only universal blocks are being used also for people with universal hybrid cooling, but as this is a topic about full water block I speak assuming the use of full blocks.
 
It makes about as much sense as Kingpin version video cards lol......They dont play games any better than the standard cards. Like putting expensive exhaust systems on normal cars. Its a mental thing. Trust me i have burned money on worse things (You can ask some whores that know me lol) On my own pc's i get a kick out of cost effectiveness but i do like to check other peoples builds with the expensive cooling wether practical or not.
 
The only reason I am going to put blocks on the 3 480s I am getting is because it will be running a balls to the wall OC and mining 24/7..Temperature is what kills cards mining. Period. Nothing else. If there is no fan to break down, then the card can never overheat. My 290s have never seen a core temperature north of ~53C..

If I were buying a used card, I would much prefer knowing that card was cooled at ~50% of the next used card which was run with air cooling..I also would know that the WC'd card's HSF is 100% operational (if it were sold without the GPU block) since it was never used vs the air cooled card that might have excessive fan wear etc..

My other issue is noise..I suffer from extremely debilitating migraines, and certain sounds feel like someone is hitting me in the head with a shovel..I don't care what anyone says about "how SILENT" their triple fan air cooled card is, the fact is that it's FAR from silent..2 or 3X 70/80/90mm fans will never be half as quiet as a 120/140/200mm fan spinning at ~500 RPMs..That to me makes it worthwhile, even if the block is $150 each..


All this being said, if the blocks are more then $80 on the high end I will most likely reevaluate things..By the time these are hitting the market, we should know which AIB cards are worth looking at..IF the AIB cards are meh and there aren't any GPU blocks for them, then I will most likely go with 3X universal GPU blocks and rig up some decent VRM cooling. Just have to wait and see what's what..

Cagey, thanks for adding Aqua's offering..I am not a big fan of the looks of their blocks or their extreme prices..I would bet their offering comes in at $120 or more..I think it will be XSPC for me..

Normally, I always do a cost analysis but when going triple gpu or higher, there's no way in hell you can maintain your sanity with three banshees wailing 24-7 under aircooling. Your application is beyond typical obviously. This is a time when hearing and sanity trumps money spent so get them blocks or triple gpu on air will become a nuisance.

No, those are the chokes which are rated to 125c. You don't have to cool chokes, but the vrms you do have to cool on. In some cases with ultra low power and slow arse cards/motherboards, vrm cooling isnt important.
 
To be fair, unlike the rx 480 block, that one doesn't cover even half the card, never mind the VRMs. It's a lot smaller, and priced accordingly.

I'm simply pointing out waterblocks that cost >40% of the card itself exist, so a $100 waterblock for a $250 card wouldn't be the most outrageous thing.

Truth be told, I don't even know why EK bothered with a 750 (Ti) waterblock. The people who buy those GPUs are by and large mutually exclusive with the people who run a true custom loop.

yeah I saw that too. clearly says the VRMs, not chokes, are good to 125C and that they topped out in the high 90s.

No, that block only cools the core and the ram chips, both the chokes and the VRMs are left untouched on the 750 ti block--the VRMs are the small chips left of the chokes. Edit: Oh, for some odd reason I thought you were replying to me, in fact, don't even know what I was replying to. Sorry, just me being weird, please disregard.

Well I would probably go with a full cover block for the looks. I see water blocks as an extension of the case. It's like buying the Gentle Typhoon fans for $23 each. I've seen dudes with what looked like 20 or more of them in a case. It's just cooling; not really a GPU cost thing.
