Rusty Fillport?

I threw together a system a couple of months ago pretty quick, just to get it up and running for a get-to-gether and just recently got around to pulling it apart to put it together right. My fill line was kindof flopped over and water sat on the DangerDen fillport most of the time. It took some real effort to get the plug to unscrew out of the fillport, and I found that it was all rusted.

Are the fillports not supposed to contact the water? I was planning on throwing one in another computer as a drain port, but now I'm reconsidering. Should I change my coolant (add antifreeze, or something)?

Also, the tubes were coated in a light green something. I'm guessing that the inside of my radiator and cpu block are too. Should I worry about trying to clean them out? Or should I just leave them?
 
Sounds like your getting corrosion from 2 different metals (probably copper and aluminum).
You need to add some anti corrosion additives to the water (anti-freeze works just fine).

So, I would clean the block/s and fillport with some distilled white vinegar (followed by a distilled water rinse) and change the tubing as needed then refill with a 80/20 or 90/10 mixter of water/anti-freeze or your preferred anti-corrosion additive.

Yes add anti-freeze to your water cooling. The fill-port is usually ok to be in contact with your water but since you didn't have any anti-corrosive (anti freeze) in your water it rusted. Oh and the light green stuff on your tubes is algae. You need to drain you water cooling setup completely and clean it out thouroughly. This includes flushing it COMPLETELY several times with distilled water and even vinegar on a few flushes and then again with distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER TO FLUSH THE SYSTEM. After your done cleaning it then get your self a nice 80% distilled water 20% anti-corrosive solution and fill it up again. I would also reccomend picking up a new fillport and taking that rusty POS outta there.

You think? I used distilled water with a decent bit of iodine thrown in it. Figured that would handle the nasties.
