I'm attempting to install the backplate on my Asus P5K-E wifi board, but there's a row of solder right where one of the ridges of the backplate goes, causing the backplate to sit uneven. Has anyone installed this HS on this particular mobo? If so, was there something special that had to be done? I'm at a loss as to how this HS can be properly installed due to this problem.

Which backplate did you use ?

I was one of those who installed a SI-128 (non-SE but doesn't matter) with a Thermalright LGA775 bolt-thru mechanism on a P5K-E/Wifi-AP and it works fine. It's just a bitch to screw 2 bolts under the fins by hand but it's doable with the motherboard out of the case :)

I'm using the backplate that came with the SE. I don't recall if my SI-128 on my C2D system had a backplate or not, but I know that I didn't use it on my P5B Deluxe. I just used the push pins to install it and it worked fine. Unfortunately, the SE doesn't have the same mechanism. You have to use the backplate and no matter what I try, the backplate hits the row of solder and is uneven.

I'm not, but if I were you, I'd be taking a file to the backplate to relieve the pressure on that solder path. ;)

Good Luck!
