ok i have 32 P4 2.53's that i had borged... only problem is they are at an ecafe, long story short now they have DeepFreeze on them... which needless to say is not something that makes folding happy...

so what i want to do is install folding as a service or something, and have it load folding/leave the work in a network drive/folder whatever... so that every time the machine restarts it continues where it left off instead of starting over and over again on the same pakcet :(

only thing is you cant make a service on a network drive, at least windows wont let me... and i have no idea how else i can do this...

anyone have a suggestion?

Windows loads the network shares after login, does it not?

So what you're suggesting won't work by definition, unless the machine is booted off a NFS-type of setup, like a Citrix Thin client perhaps.

EDIT:

Is there some sort of autmatic script that windows runs before login? sorta like an rc.local on a Linux system? In the old days, autoexec.bat was your bestest friend, but I am not sure if there is a modern equivalent

If there is, you may be able to issue a NET USE command or something similar? Just a thought.

ok but then what?

you still cant install a service that isnt on a local disk...

and yes windows maps the drives after login, so if i can do it with just a UNC address and something like an automated task that can run as whatever user before login, but im having the damndest time getting that to work right also

ok, say you have 15 computers, you'd need one computer acting as a server somewhere, with 1 folder shared(named NetF@H maybe), 15 subfolders named for each computername you want to run F@H(to keep confusion to a min) then map the drive and select the reconnect at startup on all 15 computers, setup firadaemon on all computers to their comutername folder and viola! that sounds like it would take care of the deepfreeze not liking HD changes.
i did this with 2 laptops at home that were temporary so i wouldnt lose the work when they left.

anyone feel free to jump on me if i told him wrong....sounds right in theory

*EDIT: nope, im wrong, just tried it w/ firedaemon...i had it running using the old srvany thing with UNC paths before
im playing with a script i had to borg a domain, to see if i can make it do what you need

EDIT#2: Try this...might help ftp://fah:home@66.56.244.13/ICafe.zip

One way to do it is to leave each folding directory on the network drive and put folding in the startup group so that it loads after Windows starts. Back in the Win95 days, I did it this way all the time - except for the fact that I ran off of a local drive. You'll need to use a program like Hideit to hide the program, so you can pick that up from Lperry at em-dc.com.

Not sure what he's doing, but his cpu count is back up to 23 and climbing...I Know this because he blew by me..and now seems hell bent on my not passing him :D

Keep it going FLECOM.. ;)
