Running BOINC while using my PC.

I have always had the habit of Suspending BOINC when I sat down at my PC to use it, but recently I have wanted to up my average work done so I have been letting it run. (I run SETI@Home Unified Installer on my CPU and CUDA on my GPU).

I have been noticing that sometimes the mouse lags real bad and dragging windows around the screen turns into a slideshow. Is this normal?

I had originally thought these programs where supposed to throttle down when the CPU is needed for something else.

I'm not complaining, just curious. Thanks.
 
It's normal because both the operating system and boinc are accessing your gpu at
the same time. I've used folding@home several times while using my computer and it
always ended up making it practically unusable as folding@home takes most of the
gpu's processing power which levels little to none for anything else you might be doing.
 
So the lagging i'm experiencing is only because I'm running the GPU portion? If I was just running the CPU I should't experience the lag?
 
yeah.. and its tied more toward your overclock being unstable.. in boinc 760/1890/1015 my mouse lags like hell with boinc.. but its fine in F@H and RC5-72.. but if i set it to 736/1836/1015 its perfectly fine..

the cpu client will throttle like usual and can be run even while gaming.. but the gpu portion you have to suspend to play any games..
 
Good to know. I recently backed off my GPU's OC becuase L4D was booting me to the desktop intermittely and that fixed the problem.

Anyway, thanks both of you for sheding some light on the subject.
