So anyways, my Shuttle SFF died on me (power supply / mobo fried I believe). Before I return to school I'm going to need to purchase a new computer, either a new SFF or a Laptop. Now, I have a 2405fp, and my question is, if I get the Laptop, will I be able to run 1920x1200 on the laptop and on the monitor with a 7900GS? That sounds like the ideal situation for me, dual 1920x1200 makes me drool. I'm looking at the Dell e17xx series (or the XPS if I can get a good coupon to work).

Anyone know if the 7900GS can support dual 1920x1200 resolution? I'm pretty sure the laptop has DVI output, so that shouldn't be an issue.

This might be a newb question, but I've never owned a laptop! I'm considering going to the darkside though, especially since I'm studying abroad in London starting next January.

A 1920x1200 resolution LCD is an option for 1705's, so it will run it just fine. It does have a DVI out.

the optional GPUs on the 17ers do have DVI output. Should have dual 1920x1200s jus fine.

Bah. Laptop owning isn't going to the dark side. Well, unless maybe you pitch your gaming rig & get a lappy with crappy (integrated) graphics or one of thoese 2 lb ultraportable 1.2GHz machines. What I'm about to do is, however. I'm planning to attend law school in the fall of 2007. I've got an engineering degree & 8 years of programming experience so I'm highly qualified to be a patent attorney specializing in software patents.
That said, the 7900GS + 1705 should be fine. I'll second the Dell. 1705. Dell makes solid machines and doesn't screw around when it comes to service. Plus if you get the right coupon code you can get some killer deals on them. They're #1 for a reason. I wish they made decent tablets... would have saved me a few hundred bucks compared to the Toshiba Tecra M7 I just bought. IBM/Lenovo lappys may still be better quality, but they're pretty much focused on business only. I don't think they even make a 17".
