I'm going to set up a file server on my network (mainly for music), and I'm thinking about going with Linux as the OS. I don;t have any experience with Linux, but I think I'll be able to figure it out. Anyway, I have a few questions about how the Linux computer will interact with the Windows network it'll be on.

1) I know I'll need Samba to get everything working right, but will the PCs be able to see and access the MP3s on the Linux machine? Will they be able to write files to the Linux box?

2) If two people want to listen to the same song at the same time, will it allow it or will the second person get a 'file in use' error? If there will be an error, is there any way to get around this (making the songs read-only?)?

3) Are there any really compeeling reasons NOT to go with Linux for a set-up like this? There will also by Sonos units on the network, but they claim to work with Linux just fine.

Thanks for your help!
