Running 667 with 800?

Ive currently got 512MB 667 and I want to get a 1GB to add to it. The 1GB 800 is cheaper than the 667. Will it make a difference if I get the 800 and run it along with my 512MB 667?

Thanks

I've been told that the memory should downclock itself, however when I tried that with one of those ECS boards, it wouldn't boot period.

What is the board or laptop specifically?

Also check you might find something in the FS/FT section, or you can at least post up a wanted ad and see what happens.

Just manually set the speed to 667 and leave voltage on auto if you have too. There is zero performance increase going from 667 to 800 unless your FSB is over 333, which it's not at stock speed.

hes going to be running 800 ram at 667 ram speed. There will be a performance difference. He just may not notice it.

Putting memory in a system that is faster than the FSB does not increase performance because it can only be read/write at the rate the path can feed it. If his bus was 400MHZ, then 667 DDR would cause performance loss, but even then, you wouldn't notice outside of synthetic benchmarks. And those are fake.

Works fine on my P5N. Actually, i'm running the 667 at 800 anyways.
