Running 3 hard drives?

I recently had a friend give me an 80gig HD so i could use it as a storage drive on my pc. Worked well but must have a bad spot or something, as sometimes a file will become inaccessable and make a terrible griding noise from the HD itself.

So i finally dished out the cash and bought a 120gb HD. My question is: is there any easy way i could hook up all 3, and transfer the 40 gigs of data off my old one onto the new 120?

I tried setting the jumper to slave and firing it up, but it says that the 2ndary harddrive was not found.

Not sure what im doing wrong, of if its even possible.

hook both the 120 and the 40 on the secondary ide, disconnecting the cd drives if needed.
boot up, ensure the bios still uses your primary o.s. hard drive as the first checked drive, then copy the files inside your o.s.
reconnect everything back as you had it after copying and shutting down the pc.

you may even have to goto "disk management" in the "my computer" right-click menu "manage", and initialize the new hard drive.
 
First of all I'm wondering how exactly did you "make your friend give you the HD" :)


ANyway... If its a brand new HD and you set it to slave, did it pick up in CMOS? If it did then once your in windows you'd have to format and partition the drive before windows will let you access it.

Right click my computer > manage > disk management > rightlcick new drive and format.

that should do the trick.
 
hey guys thanks for the info

AFter messing around with it for awhile, i think the new drive is messed up.

Whenever i hook it up, it makes a strange "click" noise ever few seconds, and the PC will not boot, even with my 80gig removed, and the 120 in its place as a slave.

My friend says it sounds like the head is broken, so i guess i need to get a new HD. :(
