Run VM with no install

Hi,

This seems kind of weird but is there a vm player that can encapsulate the vm and install and everything into 1 exe file? So the user doesn't have to install the player, start it and run the vm? Or if not what would be the least complicated way to distribute a vm pre configured to a user so that they can't mess up the install and know how to use it?

Also is it fine to use System Builders copies on these that are disturbed, so we just change the key on each copy that is let loose to clients? Does this violate any big licenses? I figure if we give them the info and let them know it can only be installed on one machine at once we should be alright. Be nice to have it run just off the dvd so they don't have to have the vm locally, and keep that image so it can't be changed, then any changes just go to their temp folder and are discarded on exit. Thanks.

If a user installs VMware Player (easy enough) and then just double clicks on a VHD file it should open in VMware Player automatically.

Something to test at least.

Yeah almost positive you're right, although we're talking users that have trouble installing regular apps on their own. If it's more than 3 instructions they'll probably mess it up. Trying to reduce it as far as possibly. Thanks,

That looks like that might work perfectly, other than the cost. I don't think cost is too much of a concern on this project though and the security would be a great benefit. I'm going to start researching this option and see where it goes.

There's no client cost for ACE, you only have to pay to obtain the product, and at least mine came bundled with VMware Workstation (though that may have been a promo).

re: system builder licenses
Not sure, but iirc those are OEM and need to be bundled with hardware, no? If so, then they won't work for VM distribution.
