Oops! I saw a small smudge, or so I thought, on my ViewSonic P95f monitor so I put a drop of lens cleaner on a cloth and wiped it off pressing firmly. I removed my hand and.. shit! It looks like I've rubbed off the anti-reflective coating. The smudge I saw was not a smudge, it was an area that was already devoid of the coating and I made it worse. I tested the lens cleaner on a few other areas and it removed the coating. The cleaner I used was "Shield Lens Cleaner" alcohol-free by Hilco.

The monitor is still under warranty but I'm guessing ViewSonic won't replace it. Should I even bother to try and RMA it? At their website in the warranty information it says "damage to, or abuse of, the coating on the surface of the display" is not covered. I think that applies to me.

There goes $290 down the drain. Only use proper cleaners on your monitor!! Or don't, I don't care.

damn dude.....so sorry to hear that. I'm gonna be buying an LCD here in less than a week so i'll make sure and remember that. how bad is it?? just super shiny or something?

Imagine blotches of finger grease or water on your monitor. It's a small area, about 2" x 2", and off to the side so its not so bad. It's not in the way of any por.. I mean work so I can live with it.

So who wants to buy me a new monitor?
