Hey guys, recently got a new RTX 2070, just installed it today. Using MSI Afterburner I cannot get the idle fan speeds to go any lower than 41%. Do these cards have a locked fan speed? I would much prefer my card to have its fans off during idle.

AFAIK, that's the min on a FE. I know of some people flashing the EVGA FTW3 BIOS to their cards to get rid of the power limit, but also being able to use AB to set 0% after the flash. I've also heard that it's a driver bug, and without the driver, the fans are around 700RPM vs. 1500RPM when idle.

FWIW, Nvidia support will tell you that it's no bug and that they run at 1500RPM min per design of the FE. Take that as you will.

Hmm, well that sucks. Not a "fan" of high idle speeds but I guess I can't complain, the card was free....

It's pretty sad Nvidia increased the FE fan speed when they went with dual axial fans. Even the old blower fans could idle at around 27-28%.

Definitely won't work with an HTPC build, better off going with a AIB card.

Yeah its pretty goofy. But I'll give them credit, they do a really good job at cooling the card. haven't seen it break 65c yet. Considering they idle at 41%, the card is pretty quiet, even at full load compared to others I have used in the past. I just wish I could turn them down for longevity purposes, since the card was given to me from a contest it has no warranty. :meh:

The last blower I had was on a EVGA GTX 570, the min on that was 40%. EVGA released a BIOS fix just for the 570, that changed the idle speed to 30%.

They even released an updated io bracket that had enlarged air slots to deal with the increase in heat.

Last blower card I had was a GTX 680, sounded like a leaf blower. Never again.

I'm referring to the prior iteration (Pascal blower)--no comment on the ones before that.
