I'm thinking about buying Dungeon Siege II I played the demo and it was very cool. I was unable to play it via online :(. I'm also thinking of buying either WoW or Guild Wars. Not sure what one of them I would like to get. I don't like the whole monthly pay thing that WoW has but then again you can pay for up to 6 months but i guess what's bad about that is I might only play a month and really not like it LOL. Humm.... I have seen WoW played and I liked the Warcraft games. I guess the only thing keeping me from buying it is the $ and the fact that I want to build a gaming computer LOL.

with that system id recommend getting something better asap

whats your budget?

3000+ a64 and overclock it to 2.5ghz
1gb-2gb of ram depending on budget
7800GT or x1800xl

that would make nice system that is if you can afford one of these latest gen vid cards if not a 6800GT is still good i wouldnt suggest anything less tho.

I have DS2 and i like it...It's not much different than the first but its a good game imho. I play it off and on when i want to get my rpg fix..... :p

Yeah I'm Working on configuring a new computer, Right now I have a 2Ghz with an ATI 9000 on my laptop. It seems to play Dungeon Siege II just fine. But I do want to build a Gaming Computer. I'm just figuring out the configuration for it right now and my budget lol. Guild Wars looks cool but So does World of Warcraft. I don't Dungeon Siege II is cool and I'm probably going to try and find a cheap copy somwhere on eBay lol.

WoW comes with a free 10 day pass. the 10 days is in WoW time so its not 10 days in real life. your time is only spent when you are logged into the game and playing so you dont have to buy a gamecard or anything til your time runs out. i played guild wars for about 2 weeks and got bored. the fighting is kinda cool and seems very similar to WoW. if you start playing WoW either join the server that the Hard guild is on or start one on my server and join my guild and ill help yas out.
server = gilneas and on the horde side
player name = Raszun
Guild name = Stomping Grounds

i say give wow a try because im pretty sure youll like it. but i must warn you....ive been playing this game for a year now and im still going. this game can also easily eat hours away with little notice.

hmmm last time I started the game it came with the usual 1month free of gameplay, and thats incame or out.

holy fuck, 10days is almost enough time to hit 60. I'm 53 on my warrior and 8days played.

The 9000 would be stugling a bit to play WOW, but it'd handle GW just fine.

This is an odd thing to say. In my opinion (which other people may or may not share - this is not a flame), the PC is the home of the finest RPGs ever created, throughout time...

The Ultima games (pretty much covering all of the 90s and Underworld 2 in particular).
Anything by Bioware (Baldur's Gate and Planescape in particular)
Bard's Tale series for the old school fun. Eye Of The Beholder later did this better.
Elder Scrolls games.
System Shock games for a little non-goblin-botherin' cyber action

And the current crop of RPGs are even better with the recent emergence of the MMORPG. Everquest doing it first ages ago, WoW doing it better, and a whole host of pretenders to the crown out or coming out with big name licenses attached (Dungeons And Dragons and Middle Earth)

Speaking of rpg's...has anyone tried that rpg/rts/whatever the heck it is called Dragonshard?

I've been looking at it in the store, but would like some opinions on it.

Yeah, but it's not 10 days of /played, it's 10 consecutive days. That's a lot of caffeine.

play WoW, don't do DS2, I just don't think they added much and honestly clicking so much gave me hand-pains.

i feel exactly the same, the last rpg i enjoyed playing was diablo 2 that was like 00-01 5 years ago! ragnarok online was ok also tho

and too many rpgs are becomming p2p

I was referring to this guy's post where he claims that it IS 10days /played. Which is contrary to what I always thought. I and many others got a 30day consecutive day trial with purchase, but collector's edition people also got a 10day additional pass for a friend or something. I thought maybe DirtyApe was talking about this collector's edition pass? I'm not real sure, he could also just be on crack.....

The 10-day pass that comes in current boxes is 10 real days, not in-game. I got hooked that way and it expires after 10 real life days.

Good Luck.

I was just going to ask that question LOL. It looks like a cool game I'm going to try and get a demo of it and see if its worth the money. I know I want to buy Dungeon Siege II Just trying to find it cheap lol. I might try to get WoW too and if I like Dragonshard I might get that. This will give me a reason to upgrade to a new gaming computer LOL. Not sure what type of gaming rig I want to build lol.

DS2 is fun, it has replay value too, not to mention the best scenery in any game i've seen so far, man their forests kick ass, and to the clicking, i don't know what you were doing, i just had a healer in the group, put a healing spell on her auto cast, and didn't click jack squat unless i needed to use some abilities, if i was a melee i'd just hold down the mouse button (something D2 had) its not alot of clicking, i click more in WoW then anything else these days

your computer is fine for playing, except for the TNT, you might have problems loading it up, a 6600GT will run it with ALOT of detail, i can run it on a 6800GT with max settings, even with 4xAA and 16xAD

As far as the 9000 not being able to handle WoW very well, I have been wanting to build a new Gaming computer anyway. This laptop is for "School" I'm not really suposed to be loading games on it LOL. so I was thining of configuring a new Gaming Computer here is what I have come up with thus far. If anyone has and Suggestions please feel free to let me know. I'm so outdated I don't know whats good and whats not good anymroe LOL just look at my Signature lol

I suggest against basing conceptions on World of Warcraft with Warcraft III. The two have less in common than would seem logical. However they both have the same Blizzard quality, so if you like Blizzard games in general then there's a good chance you'd like them both.

The funny thing is that even the storyline strays further and further from WC3:FT. Blizzard just keeps adding more convoluted story twists to justify new dungeons/mobs/content.

We want new raid dragons? Let's put in green ones. Oh, they're good? Uh... they're corrupted now! Yeah, that's it. They got corrupted by something that has to do with evil-corrupting stuff even though neither the Burning Legion nor the Lich King had much specific interest in them in the Warcraft timeline.

Fable:TLC is good if not a little short. Got mine off of ebay brand new in box fairly cheap. Good game if you can get it at a decent price.
Still impatiently waiting for Oblivion tho so i can lose alot of sleep playing it.... :p

Yeah I have played the Demo of DS2 and I like the game, so I think I'm going to buy it soon, I kinda want to work on building a gaming computer so I don't have to use my new laptop to play and of the new games lol. I would like to see what the new Dragonshard is like. I like RPG's that are like D&D more than the PVP, That's why i'm not sure if I want to even get WoW right now lol. unless I get the game for really cheap on ebay then I might get it hehe.

MMORPGs are not RPGs

They are No story, Click click click click hack slash.

We need some RPGs like Single Player Final Fantasys for the PC. Something like it. Where you play by yourself. And you are into a story. You interact with the game and the story, not 12 yr old little kids who want to level their character.

DS2 is an RPG althought it can be played in a multiplayer mode but mostly you have missions and what not to do. Its fun I'm trying to buy it now. As for WoW i have seen people play it and it looks cool but then again I don't know if I would be playing it too much and no doing homework or not LOL. Right now I'm just trying to get an idea for the RPG and MMORPG games out there. I have never played an MMORPG I have played RPG's like Fable Buldersgate, The Elder Scrolls. I really liked Fable and Buldersgate. But right now I need to figure out what type of computer I'm going to build for my games LOL.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy is pretty good if you're still looking. Nice change from dungeon crawlers and hack and slash rpgs I think.

I miss some of the ultima games tho..Not the online one...Always liked the interactivity you had with everything around you. Need more of that in todays games i think. (Think Oblivion will be more interactive i heard)

If you haven't already played it, Gothic II Gold is supposed to be out for $19.99 in the next few weeks. It's a couple years old, but it's a great RPG and this release is supposed to include the Night of the Raven expansion pack. It should keep you busy until Oblivion. And Gothic III is due out next year.

You know, D2s been around forever but it's still going. These days it's more-or-less hack proof for 95% of the people out there, save some map discovery exploits that are still running around. Blizz keeps patching it a little bit, and if they keep throwing in new content like they did with the Ladder Season 2 Rune Words, it opens up entirely new character builds.

Which is all (IMO) anyone plays Ladder for these days, it's crazy magic finding and trading for the first few months until the economy sets itself up, then it's back to trying something different for PvP. Regrettably, trying something too fun and weird is often not as effective as the tried and true builds that've been around since 1.08 so most of your victories with something new come from being sneaky about it. :D

And it's still free. That's all I care about. I can't be bothered for a monthly service fee for a game, really.

I will also say this was a great RPG.

Yeah I'm trying to buy Dungeon Siege II now lol. That damb demo got me hooked and now I want to play more LOL. Ahh time to look on ebay for one :-D. Yeah I would get WoW but I don't like the monthly fee, I hear a lot of people thet use to play WoW went to Guild Wars becuase its free. If you have to pay a monthly fee then they should make the darn game free or atleast cheaper than 29.99. Althought I'm not sure how much WoW's monthly fee is I think its 15 or something could be wrong but still a broke college student like myself can't affored that lol. Later on I would like to try a MMORPG but at this point in time I don't really think I will. I really liked DS2. Now Just need to find a cheap copy LOL.

I'm not so sure of the Dungeon Sieges and Diablos of the world really stacking up as proper role-playing games (though I won't get too beardy here).

I haven't played the full version of Dungeon Siege 1 or 2, but have played the demo of DS2. I played Diablo 1 to death at LAN parties back in the day.

These games are very similar, bar the inevitable graphical evolution between games developed years apart. The progress motivator isn't really for the story (as is the case in Baldur's Gate) it's more for shinier toys and levelling. There really isn't a lot of exploring to do either. Dungeon Siege 2's demo seemed to me to be a corridor that happened to be lined by impenetrable trees. Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining, but the loot balancing was hasslesome (this armour protects better vs fire, whereas this is better in melee).

When these games are boiled down to their minimum, they aren't all that different to clickfest 2D shooters (almost like "Abuse" from CrackDotCom if anybody remembers it). With my favourite kinds of rpg (Baldur's Gate 1/2, Ultimas), they are more like the paper and dice rpgs many of them are based on. In combat scenes the various archetypes do their thing, with you simply deciding on which enemy is a priority, and keeping the vulnerable out of the way. The rest of the time is spent progressing the story.

If you liked the Diablo games you'll probably like Dungeon Siege.

yeah i seen my bro get back to d2 a few months back i noticed it changed a lot :p but i think it kind of got lame since any class can use teleport, like my bro had an overpowered druid teleporting around using wind skills and he would make everyone leave lol

dungeon siege is ok but not as great as d2 was back then imo :p
maybe it would be if they developed the multiplayer a bit but still i thought it was a bit slow compared to d2

Well I bought DS2 and its on the way here should get it today. I wouldn't mind you being able to explore more but, I still feel its a good game. I look forward to playing it online :-D i'm going to also get WoW soon cuz a friend of mine is playing it and he says its pretty cool, just trying to find it somewhat cheap. Not even sure if this Laptop will handle it LOL. Ahh time to build a sweet gaming computer hehe. I have not seen what buldersgate is like on the PC I have played it on my x-box and beat it, I love that game, should see what its like on the PC. I'm sure its a little different or well I hope it is anyway lol.

Have you tried any RPG games as of late? Warcraft III I got tons of time out of, that game was excellent I still play it a little....MP though, I'm not into SP I dont care waht game it is it's goign to bore me quickly if i'm playing SP. Why dont you like p2p? p2p is what it's all about in my eyes. I play WOW now on a pvp server and it's an extremely fun game.

I get bored if i'm only facing a computer, if i'm playing against another actual human it makes all the difference for me.

I hate multiplayer for the same reason you like it. Other people. Never fails some shitface is running their mouth trying to scam me in a trade or dump hacked items on me, or just being an ass in general. WarCraft3 is NOT an RPG. It is a RTS game and that is a whole different genre.

Wizardry 8 is excellent. I highly recommend it. Might be hard to find.

Neverwinter Nights, pretty good. Not hard to find.

I have been playing Guild Wars for quite some time, It is Quite fun to play, What people failed to mention is that once you buy the game it is 100% FREE for Online Play, there NEVER charge a Monthly Fee like Wow or the others
