New system put together today.

About every 5 min the system generates an error and reboots itself. The error is as follows:

The Remote Procedure Call service trerminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time. the following corrective action will be taken in 60000 Milliseconds: Reboot The machine.

and then something about NT Authority/System.

Checking the event viewer for Applications I see the following error log:

The COM+ Event systen detected a bad return code during it's internal processing. HRESULT was 800706BF from line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact microsoft product support services to report this error.

Then it gives a website to contact but when I do click on it I get the exact same error.

any clues?

That's a virus - I had the same thing. Go try the online free norton. That's what did it for me.
 
virus? on a brand new system? I mean jsut put together in the last 2 hours?
 
yeah it is hooked up to my DSL. Went to the windows update function and HardForum
Could I have gotten the work blaster virus from that little of internet activity?
 
the blaster virus is always out there. You dont really get it from anything as such, it just finds your unpatched computer, and attacks it.
 
I've heard of fresh xp boxes being infected with all kinds of shit within 10 minutes of being hooked up to the internet(or any large network). It's really bad. You probably got infected when you were connected to the internet to download all the updates.
 
Turn on the built in Windows XP Firewall before plugging into the internet, that way your protected enough until you get the patch.
 
yah, that 10 minute thing is sooo true..

I installed Windows XP for the first time AFTER the Blaster virus, and within literelly the second reboot of the system wti hnetworking on I had it. Its a pain. Windows Update is always priority.
 
The windows firewall will NOT protect you from Blaster worm... you need to download their blaster patch from windows update.

The windows firewall is enabled by defalt anyways.

I have had a system get infected within 2 minutes of hooking it up to highspeed. Blaster is still out there and looking for unprotected systems.

Follow the steps here, and you should be okay:

where do I turn on the Xp firewall at?

If I reformat, reinstall, turn on the firewall then try and update would that fix my problem?

Honestly, bro... just follow the steps that MS tells you in the link above, and you should be fine. The stock firewall MS has built in to XP will not block blaster if XP is not patched.

PLEASE do what I ask, and all will be good! In fact, it is highly unlikely you will have to re-install!!

Skystalker I didn't see your response when I was typing out my last message.

Thanks to you all for your help I was pointed in the right direction and discovered I had Win32Blaster C, E, and F , Trojan-Gen, and something called Nachi infecting my systems.

I had them deleted , was able to download all the MS updates and all appears (crosses fingers) to be running normally.

MS is not the big-bad ogre many make them out to be... hell it hurts them more than anyone when this shit happens. :)

Do me a small fav and pass that information out to your friends? Will slow the problems you (and me) are having be limiting the number of infected systems. :)
