Router Trouble with Web Camera

I'm using a logitech webcamera to communicate with my family using MSN Messenger 6.2. The web cam has a built in microphone.

I had no problem using it before I hooked up to this new router. It's a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless/wired router.

I am not connected wirelessly, but rather directly by wire. When I'm using the webcam, the picture works fine but the audio cannot connect. I know that the problem is in the router because it is the only thing that has changed in my setup since the problem started. The linksys troubleshooting does not address my problem.

Could any of you help me out? Any suggestions are welcome and greatly appriciated.

After disconnecting from my router and giving my computer a direct internet feed, the sound works perfectly, so I know that it is the router.

I've heard stuff about porting forward and other things, but I don't know how that would help or what it means.

I'm beggin ya here, please help me out. :(
 
Well, it would be a port forwarding issue, the catch... i don't know which port's you'd need to forward to use the microphone. However, i'm sure if you google around for Port Forwarding, using MSN with webcams, etc. you'd find the ports.

edit: after doing some quick googling, i still havn't found the ports that need to be forwarded, but i have found some sites stating that you need to disable windows firewall to get the audio to work. To do this, goto start --> settings --> network connections --> local area connections, click the "properities" button, goto the "advanced" tab, and uncheck the firewall box.

Just a quick question. Is it dangerous for me to disable the firewall? Should I leave it off all the time?

Well, i leave mine off all the time. Your router has a built in firewall so to speak, so you should be relatively safe.
