Router slow-down?

I heard someone saying that running my line through a router would slow me down a little bit

I have 10MB pipe at college here and normally download around 1.2mb/s. Will switching to a Linksys 10/100 Router slow that down at all? If so, how much? I would just test it real quick, but its a pain to set it up with ga. tech resnet
 
any routing incurs a certain amount of overhead, but i dont think you will notice the difference, your bottleneck will always be the ISP.
